This past year was a big year for movies. The theaters saw exciting reboots such as "Jurassic World" and the year -- end hit "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," as well as refreshing originals like "Inside Out" and "Straight Outta Compton."
Looking ahead to this new year, there are films which will surely please movie goers of all kind. Here are the movies everyone should get excited for and see in 2016!
"Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" (March 25)
It's the battle of the century as two of DC's leading superheroes are set to fight it out in this film. Henry Cavill returns to his role as Superman, while Ben Affleck is new to the Batman role. The film revolves around the two superheroes' disagreement over how they should go about protecting humankind. Whether you're a superhero fan or not, this action- packed movie is sure to be highly entertaining for everyone.
"Finding Dory" (June 17)
The much anticipated sequel to the beloved 2003 Pixar hit "Finding Nemo" will finally hit theaters this year. This time, it's Dory, voiced by Ellen DeGeneres, who will do some searching herself in order to find her family. This animated feature is sure to attract the younger movie watchers as well as those who have been fans of the original 2003 movie. (I'm looking at you, college goers.)
"Ghostbusters" (July 15)
Although the trailer for the reboot of the 1986 film isn't out yet, the movie already has a significant amount of hype surrounding it after it was announced that the ghost fighting team consists of an all- women cast. The movie follows the group of women trying to defend their city from evil spirits, and with comedians such as Kristin Wiig and Melissa McCarthy at the helm, you can expect some laughs along the way as well.
"Suicide Squad" (August 5)
This comic book movie isn't like the rest: instead of a band of well- known heroes trying to save the world, it's a band of well- known bad guys (and girls) doing it instead. With an all star cast consisting of actors such as Will Smith and Margot Robbie, this much anticipated movie is sure to bring a new perspective on the so- called enemies in the superhero world.
"The Jungle Book" (April 15)
The classic Disney movie is getting a live- action makeover with stars such as Bill Murray and Lupita Nyong'o providing voices for the CGI animals. The film is similar to the 1967 one in the sense that young Mowgli must run away from the man- eating tiger Shere Khan, and along the way gains help from a friendly bear named Baloo. Audiences young and old are sure to find this movie equally exciting and entertaining.
"Captain America: Civil War" (May 6)
America's superhero is back, and this time he's facing off against one of his fellow avengers in order to protect a lifelong friend. Chris Evans as Captain America and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man face off in the new Marvel installment that is sure to test friendships and cause mass destruction. With already a big fan base, this movie is sure to see a great amount of success when it comes out.
From superheroes to the revival of beloved childhood stories, these movies and more are sure to make 2016 a great year for film.
