Call me crazy, but I do believe in fairytales. Maybe not all of them have happy endings, maybe the distance was too much, and happily never after prevailed. I get that; it’s happened to me too, but despite all the heartbreak, I do believe in fairytales.
Let me rephrase that, I believe in a fairytale. I believe that just when it looks like evil is going to prevail, my hero is going to come riding in seated upon a noble white horse, Faithful and True is His name. My eyes won’t be able to divert from His majesty, and I will inhabit the most beautiful Kingdom in all of the Heavens and the earth. Because you see, my prince is the Prince of Peace, the King of Kings, and the Lord of Lords.
He is coming. The King is coming. Forget Prince Charming; if He comes - great, if not - great. The King is coming!
I want to wear that breath-taking white gown and carry that beautifully crafted bouquet down the aisle as much as the next girl. It’s our nature, but more importantly than being any man’s bride, I have been called to be the bride of Christ and so have you. The Church is the bride of Christ. Like, isn't that just an awesome feeling— You are the bride of Christ, the Son of the Living God. Cue the fireworks.
Christ proposed the engagement years before you were on the radar. John wrote about it in the book of Revelation, and Jesus said (hypothetically), “ Here’s the story right here for you. Wait patiently. I’m coming.”
When you said “yes” to God: “Yes I admit; yes, I believe. Yes, I confess,” you were also saying yes to being the bride of Christ.
Just like a man helplessly in love, Christ has given His everything to pursue you. And like the man of your dreams, He always wants what’s best for you. He thinks of you every single second of every single day. He wants your time and energy and complete devotion. He also wants you to relentlessly pursue Him as well.
Much like an engagement, when you said “yes,” that simple word was a pledge of commitment that you would spend the rest of your days pursuing one another. But it’s not until the wedding day that the vows become eternity. The day you followed the Prince of Peace, you stepped into an eternal love.
The Church is the Bride of the Lamb, and the wedding day is quickly approaching, my friends. With every corrupt decision made on Capitol Hill, the groom is drawing near. With every shooting and act of terrorism, He gets closer and closer. The wedding day is approaching, and Christ will come back, call you by name, and rescue you from this broken world. Oh, what a glorious day!
But just as with any wedding, there are preparations to be made. Even in the simplest of weddings, there is much to do, and the bride takes on that responsibility. We the Church— We the Bride of Christ, have much to do. Revelation 19:7 says, “The wife has prepared herself.” We must be prepared. Every voting opportunity matters. Every act of love matters. Ever person you encounter matters because the King is coming.
Clothed in white linen for the righteousness of the Saints, we will rise to meet our King. The marriage of the Lamb is coming. Oh, what a glorious day that will be. The Prince clothed in splendor and majesty with many crowns resting upon His head and His robe stained with blood, will meet me at the alter of eternity and lead me to my happily ever after.
He is coming. “Like a bride waiting for her groom, we’ll be a Church ready for you. Every heart longing for our King. We sing, even so come. Lord Jesus, come.” It's the most beautiful love story ever told.
