Being mixy is the act of getting in the mix or mixing it up with others socially, as defined in Urban Dictionary.
Mixy is a well known term here at the University at Albany, that is frequently used. From the looks of it, the University at Albany might just be one of the mixiest SUNY campuses. People use this term in various ways to describe an extremely social person. For example, someone may tell you "you're too mixy" because you are very social and know a lot of people. There are three main areas on campus that involve the largest amount of mixiness transpiring.
1. The Campus Center

2. The Podium
As a student attending the University at Albany, I must say that the podium is the most mixy place on this campus when it is nice out. This is where people choose to relax, meet new people, people watch, watch the water show by the fountain, and whatever else they feel like doing in-between or after classes. I have seen so many accounts of mixiness being done at the podium that I lost count. The podium may be a seasonal mixy location, but it is still the most mixy location on this campus.
3. The Library
Libraries are supposed to be a quiet area away from all the distractions of the rest of the campus, but not here at UAlbany. The library is another one of the most mixy places on campus, especially on finals week. Everyone studies, at least I hope they do if they attend this college, so that means everyone has their own preference on where they study. The library is usually a first choice because it is far away from the bed that is probably calling their name. Some people run into each other and spark a conversation and some people look forward to going to the library just to see who is there. My best advice to avoiding the mix in this area is to go to the Science Library instead.
Being mixy is controversial because just like everything else in the world it has its pros and its cons. I know a lot of students here that are guilty of falling into the mix. Being mixy can be a distraction but it can also benefit a person in the future for making all these ties in college. "I feel like being mixy today," my friend Giena expressed to me yesterday. I thought about what she said for a while and realized that being mixy is more than an act, it is a trend. People on this campus just want to be mixy sometimes and that is okay, just remember you're priorities at the end of the day.
