Yes, I Am A Millennial Republican

No, I Do Not Or Will Not "Feel The Bern"

You know what grinds my gears? The fact that young Republicans are constantly stereotyped as being anti-women, not believing in gay marriage and my personal favorite, being a Republican because my parents are. Last time I checked, I am pro women’s rights, everyone deserves to love whoever the hell they want and I made my political party choice on my own, not my parents. I am also sick and tired of my Liberal friends try and attempt to change my political views and “Feel the Bern” like they do. So, here’s some questions I get asked a lot and tired of hearing.

1. “So you must hate gay people right?”

This has got to be the most absurd question to ask someone. No, I do not hate gays. A vast amount of my friends are in fact gay (wow the Republican has gay friends shocking right?) and everyone on this planet has the right to be happy and love whomever they want. It is not my place, or anyone’s for that matter, to tell someone that they cannot be happy because it’s “unethical” or not “the American way.” I don’t understand why some people cannot grasp that simple concept. If it isn’t harming you or putting you in danger then don’t worry about what others are doing.

2. “Why wouldn’t someone want free college?”

I love this question so much. When I first heard some (not all) Bernouts proclaim how much they wanted free a college education it made me stop and think this: “weren’t you the one who skipped class and copied off others assignments and now you feel entitled to a free education? You do realize that you already had 12 years of a free education and now you feel entitled to more?” Colleges are businesses if you do not know that by now. If colleges became free, who is going to pay for it? How will professors get paid? What will happen to private colleges? Will your degree even be worth something? And please don’t say “lets tax the wealthy.” I can promise you that is not the solution to EVERY problem.

College is a privilege, and I cannot say that enough. If you want to go to college, work hard. Hard work has rewards you know. Hold on tight because what I am about to say will blow your mind. Did you know that you can go to college without swimming in student loans and drowning in debt after graduation? Well you can! There are these things called scholarships and if you get good grades and test scores in high school or participate in a sport, they will give you money to go to college! Also, FASFA exists too. If your family cannot afford to send you to college, then you can apply for this and they will give you money to go to college. Unable to get high enough SAT scores and your family isn’t considered a low-income household? I heard the military pays for your college for free if you enlist. A wise man once said “if there’s a will, there’s a way.”

3. “You’re a woman so why don’t you support Hillary?”

The same reason why not all Blacks support our current President. The reason why I do not support Killary is simple actually. Did any of her followers pay attention to Benghazi? Or the email scandal? If it was someone else who sent all of those emails and erased them and tried to play it off they would be locked in a Federal Prison. Yes, I am fully aware that I am a woman and I believe in women’s rights as well. But I do not want a murderer to be the next President. Especially someone who thinks that acting like a child will get them the millennial vote.

4. "So you must want to defund Planned Parenthood?”

OK this one is a touchy subject. Personally, I am Pro-Life. But, I cannot force someone to keep something they do not want. I think it’s very wrong for someone to choose to end their baby’s life; especially since it is being talked about how Bernie and Hillary think it is alright to abort a baby up to 20 weeks. I may be against abortion but it isn’t my place to force someone to do something they do not want to do.

A woman should be able to choose what she wants to do with her own body, plain and simple. I am however, against Planned Parenthood. And I also agree that this facility is an issue because it is funded by taxes and some people are paying for something that they don’t support and are against their beliefs. Do I want to defund it? Not entirely. Do I feel they need to change the way they do things? Absolutely. Planned Parenthood is vastly known and has helped women in need of answers. If it goes away altogether, a lot of women will be lost and will have trouble getting the answers and results they need.

5. “How could you be against Obamacare? It has helped so many people!”

Personally, I have not met one person that has been helped with Obamacare. I know quite a few people who do not have health insurance and are unable to sign up for it. Obamacare should be gone in general and a new and better form of healthcare should be made available to those in need. One that will actually work and not be complicated and near impossible to sign up for. Liberals are known for being pro-choice. But if they support Obamacare, not only does it forcefully make you change your doctor that you were “promised” to keep; it also limits the range of facilities you can use. Also, it makes you pay for certain coverage's (i.e. maternity and pediatric care) even if you will never utilize it. Obamacare also does not reimburse the doctors in a timely or affordable manner. Does that sound like much of a choice to you?

6. “Guns are bad why do you want them?”

It is every United States citizens second amendment right to carry a firearm unless noted otherwise. If a burglar came into your house wouldn’t you want a firearm to protect yourself? Guns aren’t that easy to legally obtain in the first place and you need a permit to carry guns such as a handgun. Those permits aren’t just handed out to everyone. Yes, I am aware that shootings exist I would know I live in one of the dangerous counties in my state. Most of those guns were not obtained legally. So if guns were banned that wouldn’t do much. Cocaine is illegal and you still see that on the streets…

I am a proud Republican. I stand for what I believe in and for most people, the things I believe in are “wrong” and I am called “uneducated” quite a lot. I’m not ashamed of my political views, and I will never back down from what I feel is right and I won’t do that to others either. I feel that it is imperative to respect everyone’s opinion, no matter how much you disagree with it. No one should be punished for what they believe in. What I said may have been a little harsh, but those are my thoughts and my opinions and myself and everyone else has the right to freedom of speech.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
