Music has been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember. I’ve always been able to connect to the music that I listen to in a very special way, and it used to often times seem impossible for me to explain exactly what that connection was. Now that I am starting to understand more about myself, understand more about the growth that I have made as a person, and have had a lot of experience with listening to a more diverse range of music throughout my lifetime, I’m starting to be able to figure out more about that connection that I’ve always felt like I have had to what I listen to.
Looking at the music that I typically like to listen to, along with the mood that I am in when I listen to a specific song or genre of music, a lot of what I listen to will usually be something that reflects what I may be going through at the time. There is such a vast variety of genres of music, most of which includes songs that describe most of the situations in which a person goes through in their daily lives. When song writers start writing their songs, a lot of them base what they are writing their songs about based on something that they are going through or what those around them are going through. Without realizing it, the song writers are usually writing about events that, even if the songs are about them or those close to them, most people are able to relate to some part of the song. I am one of the people who will make sure that I am listening to songs that relate to what is happening in my life that day, week, or just period of time in general, just because it brings comfort to me to realize that I am not the only one who has gone through a certain situation.
When going through an event or period of time when my life may not be going that great, I will still listen to songs that may relate to what I’m going through. Not only does it bring comfort to me to know that I’m not the only one who has struggled with certain events that can be considered the downs of life, but it helps me to see how others have made it through those events to come out a stronger person. It helps me to find ways to cope with my negative feelings, to be able to better fix my life and come out stronger than I was before. I’ll usually come out of the situation or period of time that I am going through not only a stronger person, but also someone who is able to better help those around me who may end up going through a situation or period of time similar to mine as well. I’ll be able to share with those around me how I got through my tough time, and give them advice on how I think that they will be able to get through their tough time as well.
Music has not only been able to help me through tough times in my life, it has also helped me to be able to make some close friends as well. When I come across a person who ends up sharing similar interests as me in music, we are usually able to connect on some level and be able to talk about music in some way or another, and can even end up starting to talk about a lot more beyond music. Every time I have shared an interest in music with someone, we end up talking about much more than music and have ended up becoming pretty good friends. Some of my better friendships have started with us having a common interest in music and sparking up a conversation about music.
It may seem somewhat cliché to be saying this, at least it will seem cliché to those who are as addicted to both writing and music as I am, but some of the music that I have listened to at some point in my life has inspired a lot of different writings for me. I have written several poems, short stories, or lyric ideas that were inspired by something that I was listening to or lyrics that I was reading online. I have had a few really good ideas and a few really good pieces of writing that were written based on inspiration from music. These good ideas turned out to be a few of my better works that I am really proud of. My music inspired pieces aren’t the only works that turned out really well though, I have pieces that were inspired from other aspects of life that turned out just as well as my music inspired pieces, if not better. I have really enjoyed writing my music inspired poems, short stories, and lyric ideas though because they have really helped me to appreciate the effect that music has on my life.
I have always admired the few good things that have come from my love of music, and I wouldn’t change the fact that music has helped me to slowly but surely start to become a better person. I wouldn’t change the fact that I listen to music daily just to try to help myself express my emotions, to try to get inspiration for pieces of writing, or just simply to be able to relax at the end of the day. Music has had a positive effect on my life, and I would be devastated if music was taken away from me for any reason.
