Don't Take Your Friendship For Granted

The Meaning of Friendship

I’m the type of friend you can tell anything to, and won’t judge. As we grow we realize who are true friends are. We realize that it doesn’t matter if you have a thousand friends on Facebook, Twitter or whatever. I mean seriously, how many of them do you actually talk to and hang out with daily? We realize that it’s important to keep the real friends around. The ones who will be there through your good days and bad. The ones who will pick you back up when you fall. The ones who will support you in the choices you make, but always advise you to do what is best. The ones who will push you to chase after your dreams. They are the ones who will be there when you need a shoulder to cry on, to make you laugh so hard that it hurts. The ones who will be there to listen to you rant. They are the ones who will realize something is wrong and do everything they can to make you smile and laugh once again.

I'm sure we've all come across that saying “I’d walk through fire for my best friend” while they may be a bit drastic, it does show how a person can matter to someone in their life and they will take extreme measures for them. While I may not walk through fire for someone because I don’t want to die, but if we're to talk about extreme measures, then let’s put it this way. If my best friend were to jump off a bridge, you best believe I’ll be waiting in the water with a boat. That goes to show that you, as my friend mean a lot to me. So don’t take advantage of that. A true friend wouldn’t judge you by your past, instead, they will help you move on and learn from it. A true friend sticks by your side without any demands. They are just there for you because they care.

You should be very selective when it comes to friends especially nowadays. You never know the intention of people. People nowadays don’t really know the meaning of loyalty, honesty, trust and most of all friendship.

Friend·ship

Noun

  • A relationship between friends.

Friendships aren’t about who you knew the longest, they’re about how someone walked into your life and made you improve as a person. They made you want to be the bigger person, a better person than you once were. Anyone can have friends. Because in life, we make all sorts of friends that become a part of our life. But sometimes people move on. We move on. We come to realize that we never really “lose” friends, we just find out who the true ones are.

So if I’m your friend, don't take advantage and don’t take me for granted. Yes, I might have known you for a long time, but that doesn’t mean you really know me. Don’t think that I will be there for you because I’m your only option or only hope left. I don’t like that and you best believe that you won’t have me as a friend any longer.

As your friend, I will always be there for you, have your back when no one else will, give you advice on things that no one ever gave me advice on. No, I am not parenting you, I am being a good friend. There’s a difference. Don’t come to me when you only need help with something and then completely ignore me because you’re busy with your other so-called friends. Because I won’t have it. If I warn you about something, it’s for a good reason. You may not see it now, but a few years from now, you’ll thank me. And I hope that it won’t be too late. Because when you screw up, I know who you are going to come crying too, and it’s not going to be your squad, that’s for sure. But when you do come to your senses, I won’t hold a grudge. I will gladly be there for you like I always have.

If I’m your friend, you can expect a lot. The ones who don’t know really know me well think I’m the shy girl, but those that really know me, my best friends, know that I’m this out-going crazy girl whose face get super pink when I laugh. Yes, I’m sassy if you haven’t figured that out, but I won’t be rude, nor will I deceive you. If I’m you're my friend, you’re always going to be my friend. Because that’s how I am. So don’t take advantage of that, and don't think I don’t see what’s going on. Because like I said I’ll give you the truth.

A true friend is hard to find, they are rare and one of a kind. So don’t lose that. Because you'll regret it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
