I lived in the Chapter house for one year, and while I thought it was going to be the most exciting year of my life … I was wrong…it was more than that. Although on move out day I was ready to go off campus and live in an apartment there was a huge part of me that never wanted to leave.
1. Whenever you needed to cry, scream, or go for a walk there was always a helping hand within 10 feet.
College is an emotional roller coaster, and there are times when you just need to let off some steam. Most of the time I wanted to be alone during these times, but take it from me it is way better to let everything out with someone else, especially someone who cares about you.
2. Being close to all your best friends made going out on a Tequila Tuesday way too easy.
3. Every week there was a different birthday to be celebrated.
4. Being ten steps away from every meeting, exactly 30 seconds if you lived downstairs.
This made the 20-minute sisterhoods and meetings a little more tolerable. Driving to them and trying to find a parking spot at the same time as 100 other girls in a 20 parking spot lot is not fun at all.
5. Sharing a bathroom with three other people rather than 45.
Living in the dorms for a year will make you never want to share a bathroom again, but its not so bad when it is three of your best friends. Except when you all have to use the bathroom at the same time and someone is showering… it gets a little complicated.
6. Everyone knew who burned the popcorn at three in the morning.
There was no denying the fact that you don’t know how to cook, or do anything in the kitchen. Everyone knew and that called for a lot of jokes directed your way, but it was something to laugh about … even if they were laughing at you not with you at first.
7. You didn’t miss one Recruitment practice, ritual, or Greek Sing practice because God knows someone would come banging on your door if you didn’t show.
There is something horrible about sitting in your room waiting for someone to come knock on the door and yell at you. Also, if you plan on napping during any of these events then keep wishing because it’s impossible. While it may seem like by week three of the semester you are so busy you can’t even breathe … you will be happy when you get 30 new girls or you win anything during Greek week. Being in a sorority is tough, but it is one of those things that you will remember for the rest of your life. Of course it isn’t for everyone, but if you leave a practice with a smile on your face than you know this is the life for you.
8. You could borrow anything from anyone, anytime.
There was never the option of saying, “I can’t go out tonight, I literally have nothing to wear,” without one person dragging you to their room to try on a different crop top.
9. There was always at least one person that took the class that you are failing or knows more about it than you do.
Out of the 30 girls that you live with there has to be someone who is in the same boat as you, even if it isn’t the same class everyone has had a hard class in college. Just sitting in the Chapter Room studying with people walking in and out wishing you good luck on your test makes you feel just a little better.
10. There are no words to express the feeling of sitting on the patio on a beautiful day with the rest of the Greek Community.
Even though it may push you to want to go out that night just because “it is so nice out,” it will be worth it. I promise.
11. The most important part in my opinion was there was always someone to do anything with.

Late night meals, Wal-Mart trips, going to the dining hall for Late Night, going to gym… which we all try to pretend we do everyday… and almost anything you wanted to do. There was always someone there. Even if it isn’t cheat day there is always time for a cheesy fiesta potatoes from Taco Hell.
12. There may be times when you wished you lived in an off campus party house, or in a little cute apartment with your BFF’s, but you will never have the chance to live with that many people you love.
Don’t miss any chance you have to do something that you will remember for the rest of your life.
Take the chance to live in the not so peaceful chapter house because once you move off campus there is no going back… and if you think you drank a lot in the chapter house just wait until you move off campus.
