The Life Of An Ex-Fangirl

Once A Fangirl, Always A Fangirl

The Life Of An Ex-Fangirl
Personal

I started out young with the fangirl life. It all started with the Jonas Brothers and my love for their music. I just wanted to listen to their music and see their movie and look at their faces on all my posters. Never really anything too serious.

Then I discovered Justin Bieber and it went all down hill from there. I watched all his videos on YouTube, I learned all his songs, I had every poster of his covering my walls. I started to keep up with him on the little social media I had at the time because I thought he was the best thing to ever happen to this world. I was in love with this boy who I never met which wasn't a problem for me. I began to become more obsessed with Justin and was a full on Belieber in just a matter of months, honestly. I created a twitter and kept up with him that way as well. Through Twitter, I started to get other celebrity crushes and before you knew it my walls in my room were covered with all sorts of posters.

The fangirl life took over my life and there was no turning back for me at this point.

I was then introduced to this singer Cody Simpson. I watched his music video “IyIyI” and I was hooked. I watched all his videos, I googled him and learned all about his family, I made a twitter dedicated to him which I called @CodynJustinLuvr143 (which has now been deleted) and I bought tickets to see him on his first tour.

At that first show, I got to meet his sister and mom and finally, I was able to meet him. Meeting Cody that day is still one of my favorite memories because for the longest time he was my favorite person in the world. After that day I continued to love him, I made my own YouTube videos dedicated to Cody, I made more twitter accounts so I could try and get his attention (Which I did when he followed me on my accounts and retweeted me three times) and continue to listen to all his music. I would watch his YouTube videos he made with his friends, I watched his sister’s videos and I just could not get enough. I collected all the merchandise I could get my hands on, I begged my parents to see him in concert time and time again. I was able to see Cody in concert eleven times and meet him a total of ten (I will forever be upset the one concert I wasn’t able to stalk down his tour bus and meet him after the show). I did crazy things to get Cody’s attention such as bring a cardboard cutout of him to a show and was able to meet him because of it. I gained attention on Twitter through a fan account I had for Cody. I made some of the most amazing friends through Cody and that Twitter account. Cody Simpson became my life for more than six years now and I have not once regretted it.

In high school, my best friends also were fangirls for their respective idols. Having my best friends as fangirls with me always gave us something to talk about. We would go to concerts together and spend every morning catching up about what was going on in each other's fandoms. When no one else would understand why we were crying over our idols, at least, we understood each other. By having my best friends as fangirls it opened me up to more concerts and experiences I wouldn't have had otherwise. Fangirling was something that was apart of my life for such a long time that when I finally started to grow out of it I didn’t even realize it. It started slowly, I once read fanfics, watched every YouTube video, never missed if they were on tv and so on. Slowly but surely those things started to fade out of my daily routine and I would just say it was because I was too busy and I would get back to it. I knew I fully grew out of the fangirl part of my life the day in my freshman year of college when I took down my framed picture of me and Cody Simpson. That day I realized he was not the most important thing in my life anymore no matter how important he will be to me forever. I can now look back on my fangirl days though and smile. I can thank these celebrities for bringing me friends I would not have met otherwise. I can look back at the pictures and the concert videos and remember that those were some of the best days of my life. Being a fangirl has taught be something important, though, that if I am going to be invested in something to make sure I invest my whole heart and soul into it. Being a fangirl was a big part of who I use to be, I am no longer that same person anymore but I wouldn’t be who I am if I wasn’t a fangirl first.

Plus, I never did stop listening to Justin Bieber, One Direction, or Cody Simpson, you can bet that if they ever come close to me on tour I will be there as close to the front that I can get. I will also be still stalking them after the show to get the perfect selfie, because honestly, once a fangirl always a fangirl.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
