I am not the type of person who rants publicly about what goes on in the world. I find that posting my opinions or thoughts usually only does more harm than good because there is always going to be some troll who will personally attack you just because they do not agree.
These threats and horrid comments that people make to others online are so harmful and one hundred percent uncalled for.
Yet, people wonder why America has so many issues with violence, self-hate and mental health.
All around us, people are degrading others. The ability to do more harm than good is very accessible. It is so easy to sit behind a keyboard or with a phone in hand and completely degrade someone for being different.
The second someone posts their love interest, or who they plan to vote for in an upcoming election, their post is pounced on. Death threats pop up left and right. Name calling from complete strangers.
Cyber bullying is an issue that people ignore. “If what people say offends you, stay off the internet.”
That is something I have seen posted online before. And it is something that I do not agree with.
America is a nation that was built on the right to have a different opinion, but some people take that right for granted. Bullying, degrading, or telling someone to kill themselves is not a part of free speech.
Quite honestly, the ways some people talk on the internet makes them look uneducated. The relaxed grammar and lack of punctuation and even auto-correct has ruined our generation as well as the future generations.
Instead of teaching people to love each other for their differences, people can lie to your face about their opinion of you, and then go home and anonymously post about it on the internet.
Yes, of course I myself am guilty of text talk, and sometimes saying things online that I should not say. We all do it. But, at some point we as a whole need to realize that what we say and do online is doing more harm than good.
There is some good in social media however people are no longer taking the time to think about what they say, who it could hurt and how it looks for them. I personally think that social media and texting is something that could ruin a lot of people, and their futures. Yes, there is some good in social media with getting the news and keeping up with old friends. But the way people state their opinions or degrade others is really ruining how people view themselves.
The use of social media really needs to change. But first, the world would have to own up to the fact that this is an issue. Until then, we cannot fix it.
