To the injured athlete,
Keep your head up, trust me on this one; you'll be back before you know it. Your injury is temporary and will be over sooner than you think. Just remember, there are only two ways to go from here. 1. Go to rehab, work your but off, and get in the best shape possible for yourself, or 2. Give up and do the minimal just to get by and make you feel good inside.
This is for those athletes who want to be the ones who go with option 1. This is for the athletes who know they can only come back stronger than when they left. This is for those who wish to only get better until they are cleared to play. You, ladies and gentlemen, have more impact than you may think. You are someone's inspiration right now, even if you don't know it. Be their role model. Show them what hard work and determination can do. Make yourself proud, and never, I mean never, let anyone else put you down. You show those people who you can be and who you want to be. Be the inspiration to not just one, but many, and make sure that you are one of those many that others are inspired by.
When being an injured athlete, it is easy to want to give up and feel down, but don’t. Yes, we all know it is not easy, and we all know that it can be tiring, but know that when the healing period is finally done, you’ll be back. Just think, in a couple of weeks or months, you will be back better than ever and enjoying every moment. But, if you give up, not only will you let yourself down, you will lose the sport that has meant everything to you. You will end up losing your own love that you thought you never would, athletics.
So do not give up, and do not forget about where the struggle will take you. Soon, you’ll be back on the field, the court, or the track and you will feel whole again. Just know that the bittersweet feeling of returning to the sport you love will be even better knowing that you put all that work in to get to where you are. You are awesome and you only can get better. So stay strong because the child who started to love the sport is still there and would not want you to give up what you love.
To the injured athlete, I know it sucks, but it can only go up from here. Now I believe in you, do you?
