I am a person who easily gets affected by the small things. If someone says something offensive to me, I get more upset than I should. If one of my friends makes a new friend, I assume I am going to be thrown to the side. If someone I am close to goes against me, much of my trust is lost.
Letting these things effect you can make you feel depressed, lonely and worthless. The first thing is understanding that everyone has troubles. You are never alone in any feeling or circumstance.
People will always disappoint you, always. No matter how much you think you can count on your parents or best friend or even pet, they will always fall short of your expectations. You cannot depend on them for your happiness or fulfillment of life.
It's important to realize that they are humans too. They make mistakes, they are not living their lives to fulfill yours. As cliché as it may sound, you are the only person who can control how you view situations and how you feel about certain things.
You are too smart, too successful and too happy to let the small things get in the way. Do things that make you feel fulfilled. Spend time with yourself to find what you're all about.
Although people are a huge part of life, they don't define you. They aren't responsible for making your life good or bad. They are there to enhance your life. They are there to support you and love you. But only you can make the most of life. Only you can control the happiness you feel.
Putting yourself first is not selfish. In order to help others enjoy their lives, you have to experience joy to eventually give away. It doesn't mean that life will be smooth once you're happy, but it will be better.
Self-dependence physically and emotionally is something I've learned more about in my short time being an adult. I've learned the extreme importance of loving myself and feeling joy in the positive outlook I choose to take on life.
