Everyone knows that stepping out of your comfort zone is not the easiest thing to do. Day to day, we go through the same routines without facing what is unfamiliar to us. Life is supposed to be exciting, so you may as well try something new. Chances are, you will like it.
When you are somewhere and come across an unusual opportunity, you should absolutely go for it. You may never come across an experience like it again, and the only thing holding you back is yourself. In order to grow, it is necessary to take these risks and let go of any fear or anxiety that may come along with them.
Personally, I know that if I had not taken risks I would not be who I am today. Without them, I would not have been able to discover my passions, what I enjoy, or who I enjoy spending my time with. Whether it was getting up on stage in front of an audience to sing, or traveling across the world without my parents, I would not trade the memories I got out of the experience for anything. I found myself pondering upon what would have been missing from my life if I had chosen not to partake in them. They led me to larger things and showed me that there was no reason to be afraid in the first place. Exposing yourself to new things helps you grow as a person and gain the broader perspective that is necessary to thrive in our world today. They also help you recognize what you may not be so passionate about.
There is going to be both good and bad in everything that you go through, but it’s the lessons that you learn along the way that matters the most. Yes, there are going to be worries, but the joy that comes out of appreciating something new is the greater prize. Along the way, you will discover more about yourself and connect with people that you never thought you would. None of this would be possible if you had chosen to stay home or to not to participate in a certain activity. The more things you try, the more open you become to new experiences. This makes you ready to tackle anything that is thrown your way and keeps you successful.
However, it does not have to be the big things, it’s the little ones too. Maybe you just want to try out a new style, a new food, or travel to a place you have never been. It’s never too late, go for it! Taking small risks over time can help you reach a larger goal you have in mind. No one can choose what you do, except for you. So leave behind any fear of judgment and, as they say, " just do you." Never be afraid to take a stand or to steer yourself in the direction that you want.
So ask yourself, "When's the last time I took a risk?" and "When's the next time I will?" You never know where they may take you.
