The Importance Of Going Abroad
Katelyn Johnson

The beginning of my freshman year began and I was super ambitious. Unlike my true self, I decided to sign up for a study abroad in Disney World. I know, not super far. I figured it would be a good start before I decide to go to another country my junior year and I just really love Disney, so I figured it would go alright.

Little did I know this would be the best 10 days of college thus far.

I was super nervous before going abroad because I didn't think I could do it. Going somewhere without your parents isn't exactly the easiest experience in the world and as someone that probably relies way too much on her parents, I was super worried. I don't like airplanes and meeting new people can definitely be scary, especially when you are spending over a week with them nonstop.

We then arrived in Disney World and this excitement just took over me. I seriously had one of the best days EVER! I mean just look at my face!

Then that night we were totally stumped on whether to go on Big Thunder Mountain or go into the Hall of Presidents before it closed. We decided to go for Big Thunder and honestly our timing was impeccable. While we were on the largest hill, fireworks started to go off at Sleeping Beauty's Castle and we all started screaming. It was honestly one of the most magical moments of my life and I was in complete shock, but that had to have been a sign that this class was meant to be really freaking good.

The entire week went by so quickly and I was able to learn the ins and outs of Disney World and why it brings so much happiness to all its guests. Although I know the secrets, I still feel just as excited going there. There is something amazing and different about going to a new place with different people. You are able to think about others and do what they want and see their faces when they meet their favorite character or go on their favorite ride. Everyone got to see me freak out when I met Rapunzel and honestly, it was amazing.

Through my class in Disney World, I was able to find some of the best people I've met since I came to Elon. They have shown me what its like to surrender yourself to your childhood and the magic of Disney while having fun, enjoying yourself, and making the most out of early days and late nights. I was able to create new memories with new people in a place I hold so close to my heart and I am forever grateful for my Disney group.

If you are thinking about going abroad, even if its for just a few days, do it. It'll take you out of your comfort zone and you will create the best memories with some of the best people. I highly recommend! And to Disney World, we will see ya real soon!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
