It's eye opening to think about how much of ourselves changes as we grow old. As kids, we laughed as loud as we wanted because we didn't care who heard us. We walked around in our favorite characters costumes with socks that probably don't match anything in our closets at all. We scribbled on paper and made music out of crayons. We were curious about the world, eager to learn. We told ourselves we could be anything, a firefighter, dancer, swimmer, you name it, we could be it. Why does everything have to change when we grow old? It doesn't. We don't have to change who we once were just to fit into society, or to survive in “the real world.” We can still be curious and chase our dreams. After all, we are all still kids, we just look a little older.
We need to stop caring so much about what others think of us. Odds are, nobody is watching. Everyone is so concerned about what others think of them, that little do they know, but everyone else is thinking the same thing about themselves. As kids, we hardly thought about who was watching us, nonetheless what they thought about us. We can still be goofy in public and say hello to strangers. Seriously how cute is it when little children say hello to you? It's still kind to do that. If we had a scratch on our face as a kid we wouldn't cover it up with pounds of makeup. We don't need to do that as adults. We are a creation and were made in a beautiful way.
Why does our curiosity about the world have to end? Watching butterflies fly in the air is still majestic and beautiful. Catching snowflakes with our tongues can still be an adventure. We need to stay curious. It's what motivates us to learn. It can be hard to still be curious about everything when you feel like you might have already experienced the joys of it as a kid. Have you ever watched a movie twice and noticed things you hadn't the first time around? It's like that. Maybe you missed something as a kid and will see now. Become curious about a subject and dig deep into it. You can only learn more.
Ask yourself, would the kid in you be happy with who you are today? The inner kid in you is dying to be let out. Resume the concerts in the shower and sing on top of your lungs. Walk weirdly to make sure you don't step on the cracks of the sidewalk because who says just because you're older you won't still break your mommas back? Being silly just makes life a little more worth living.
