Our alarms go off at 10 a.m. and it’s time to get up and go to class. We throw on our sweatpants and t-shirts, brush our teeth and slip on our moccasins as we walk out the door.
To us, just putting on the sweatpants has become a grueling process and makes the morning routine that much more difficult. But we do it anyway because not only do our GPAs rely on it, but so do the rest of our lives.
Let’s face it: sweatpants and t-shirts are not reality once we leave our little college bubbles. We will have professional jobs and internships. Eventually, we will have to enter the real world and get jobs that will turn into careers. We will have to grow up. We will have to dress to impress.
Yup, that’s right! Our world is completely based upon first impressions and how you present yourself. Your roll-out-of-bed college apparel will no longer cut it (sorry)! But what you can do is make sure you prepare yourself because getting dressed and looking appropriate will land you your dream job someday.
Landing a job or arriving to an interview is not the only reason you need to begin to start dressing to impress either. When you get up to face the day, you need to take into account how the way you look will affect you.
You never know, you may stroll into that coffee shop downtown and meet your future husband or wife. Soon enough you will be having dinner for the first time with his or her parents and you’ll want to look your best then, too.
Putting in the extra effort to apply make-up or to gel your hair could mean the difference between happiness and disappointment. I know, it means less sleep and more effort put into your appearance, but trust me when I say that it’s worth it.
Whether you just have on a pair of jeans and a cute t-shirt or are completely dressed up in a suit and tie, a person’s first impression of you is crucial.
Yes, I understand, rolling out of bed into some comfy clothes is ideal right now, but sooner or later it’ll be time to venture out into the world of judgments and first impressions.
So even though your sweatpants are soft and comfortable, it’s time for you to start thinking of the future. Go out and venture into the world, but don’t forget to dress to impress!
