Each and every woman is different. We all come in different shapes and sizes. Recently on social media, people have been posting about body image, their insecurities, and how they overcame these problems. This is because it's eating disorder awareness month. I've been told I have a "hourglass" or the classic coke bottle body figure meaning big breasts, a tiny waist, and decently sized hips. I wanted to know more about this body type and why men find it to be attractive in particular and in the media. There are even beauty products that try to force women into having the hourglass shape. Scientists thought that a small waist to hip measurement ratio showed a woman's good health and high fertility. An anthropologist from New Zealand did a study where a group of men were shown pictures a woman with photoshopped altered bust, hips, and waist. They were asked to rate the pictures based on attractiveness. The anthropologist was surprised to discover that men found her hips and waist to be the most attractive. He concluded the perfect waist hip ratio sends a signal to the man giving off that the woman is fertile and will have healthy babies. Based on this study and the conclusion, it is safe to say that men find the hourglass body shape to be attractive because of biological reasons and ratios. Having big breasts is an obvious bonus to their attractiveness as well. Personally, I believe that every woman is beautiful in her own way and doesn't need to change who they are to please a man. She should be comfortable in her own skin and confident in who she is. Be happy. Be healthy. Be you.
