A Little Appreciation For The Holy Trinity

Let's face it. We live in a society where paying attention to everything celebrities do is the norm. We listen to their music, watch their movies, stalk their social media, and draw inspiration from them, and there are always those select celebrities that everyone loves. There's Angelina Jolie, Blake Lively, Vanessa Hudgens, and many more. The only problem with our love for these celebrities is that they're all white, so it becomes hard for black women to pull inspiration from women who are not like us.

Role models should be people who inspire you to be yourself, and as a black girl, that's not possible with all white role models. However, with the Holy Trinity we finally have women to look up to. This “Holy Trinity” refers to the popular female artists Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Nicki Minaj. They have been given the nickname "Holy Trinity" due to the fact that they are constantly at the top of the music and social charts. Nicki Minaj is currently starring in the movie "Barbershop 3" and Rihanna and Beyoncé both just recently dropped new albums that are climbing the charts and both feature hit singles. These three ladies cannot be stopped and no one wants them to.

Not only can we look up to the talent and accomplishments of these three, but we can also admire how unapologetically black they are and their music is. Nicki, Rihanna and Beyoncé are constantly showcasing their bodies in videos and performances, even though they receive hate for it. Take "Anaconda" for example. When this video came out, many people were angry and said that it was too inappropriate. Nicki responded to this hate by explaining to people that if someone of a different race and body type were to do something similar, people’s reactions would be completely different. Nicki stood up to the media by pointing out how different black female artists are treated and started a movement to change this.

Beyoncé has also begun to use her music as a platform to share the struggles that black women are going through today. Her new album and music videos are all about the empowerment of women. Even though the videos feature black women, the message that Beyoncé is trying to share can be applied to women of all different races and backgrounds. Rihanna has become an important role model for us with her carefree attitude. When you watch Rihanna’s music videos or see videos of her live, you can tell that she is doing exactly what she wants, is loving every moment, and doesn’t care what anyone has to say about it. She has inspired us to be proud of who we are, no matter what other people may be saying.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
