Women run the world, whether it’s taking care of their male counterparts, providing exceptional leadership qualities within the workplace, or even making sure that everything is set in stone. They help drive the United States into what is today and have relied on their intelligence, and strong willed spirit to get them through. As a result, we have seen some major changes in the likes of women who prefer not to be labeled by the constricting stereotypes and limitations that men had placed on them hundreds of years ago. Inspiring feats have been reached, records have been broken, and stories have been told. It’s all more evidence that women are continuing to become a model of excellence and perseverance as the centuries go by. But what defines a female is not her just her personal characteristics and her will to make a change, but it is defined by the willingness to change others, and the ability to influence others.
But although it may seem correct on pen and paper, I would be lying to you if I said that enough has been done to ensure relevance in making women a part of our American culture. Growing up, my experience of women has faintly good, having witnessed a nurturing presence, overshadowed by neglect and abuse; as well as the subjection of women to become sex slaves and commit to hard labor for livable but less than acceptable pay. It is portrayed like such in the movies we watch, and it is glorified in our society, making it especially hard to men to stand up for women. Women also suffer from our system of government, in which specifically leaves women out of decision making processes, and dubs down their innovative ideas; yet applauds the ideas formed through the males perspective.
But even knowing that Women are treated this way, people are still confused as to why women are treated the way they are treated. This breaks my heart to know this because the answer to that question is an answer that nobody wants to admit.
The way a women is treated depends of how you view them…
Being taught in the schools system, you get a sense of the boundaries that women have in relation to men. Men seem to have an upper edge in society and women seem to have a more passive approach to the way they do things. Men are seen as the most dominant species not only in the workplace, but in the household as well, with constant stigmas that disgrace and label women to the degrading characteristics that stems from our perceptions. We then translate those perceptions to men who contribute to or act “feminine”. What do we do as men? We accept these conflicting terms and try to mask our true feelings in blaming the government for treating women this way.
Note to self: The true problem is within ourselves.
Face it; if someone was to tell you that your girlfriend, or wife was the one wearing the pants around the house, you wouldn’t be offended?
The problem is not that we don’t see the problem, but that we are the problem. When we accept the labels that we out on women, then we accept the labels that are put on race, and class. No matter who tells you different, discrimination is discrimination, whether it’s on race or gender. And when we discriminate against our women, we set a standard of disrespect and a lack of empathy for the struggle that women had to go through. You also affect a generation of young women that from an early age adapt to educational and social stereotypes that inhibit true growth and development. In other words, it’s the reason why you wouldn’t believe that a woman would become a surgeon or an engineer, and would much rather be comfortable with a woman becoming a nurse or a teacher.
Throughout all of the times that your parents feed you the lies that you were supposed to find yourself a women that could cook, and clean; they have been transformed into an outcast o0f the true value that women have been fighting for. Does that mean that the governmental systems are built this way? Absolutely. The patriarchal dominated system that we live by is only a sub-division of the democratic system of government, masking our true intentions and interests. We consider women as second-class to the men in society, with an exception to entertainment and the unethical reference to women as “objects” and “sex symbols”. Where have we’ve been that would allow it to be satisfying to let women become the ground we walk on?
It’s amazing how life reveals so much about a person, whether it’s the defiance of reality, or the acceptance of truth. Either way the truth will truly set you free, regardless if the truth ends up hurting someone or something. The way we generally value life has always been to view your life in relation to others. We always are never looking at ourselves, instead we watch others and make our own assumptions on how life should be. What if we instead look and analyze what life could be? The essence of our minds are not tampered by society but what society thinks of us. We then conform to the limitations of others and bring down our true community of love and equality. Break free from the perceptions and you’re an outcast. Remain restricted, and become “normal”. This is what we are taught since birth.
What if being normal isn’t considered right?
We can either be the generation that sparks the change, or be the generation that promotes the inequality. The choice is up to us to make that decision. Just by simply saying that women should be treated better is not enough. We must learn to appreciate women for who they are and work to change each other’s mindsets. A mind is a terrible thing to waste, and with teaching the younger individuals to become educated in what is right instead of what is standard, we will be able to become greater than what we are.
An inconvenience to women is people who think they can help women. People, who think that women need to be more appreciated and respected.
Do them a favor…
If you want to help women, first go help yourself.
