Ahhhh, coffee. Whether you grab it in the drive thru, press a few buttons on your Keurig, or buy gourmet bags from the grocery store, most young adults can't make it through the day without their cup of joe (myself included). People are always arguing about where to get the best coffee, but never fear! Since I'm a java connoisseur of approximately six years, I'm going to save you time and money by compiling a list of places to get your fix. Here are some of the best and worst locations to get your coffee.
1. Dunkin' Donuts
For the sugar addict:
Holy. Shit. This is BY FAR my favorite place to get coffee. They absolutely have it all. They have super sugary coffee, plain brew, and frozen drinks. Also, they have seasonal flavored coffees (I'm a big fan of the Heath Bar flavor). Year-round flavors include mocha, caramel, blueberry, cinnamon, coconut, french vanilla, hazelnut, and toasted almond. I have tried nearly all of those flavors and they absolutely blow me away every time. When they ask if you like creamer and sugar, boy, do they mean it. The best part about this joint is that usually there is a thick layer of sugar at the bottom of the cup so thick that when you take a sip you can literally chew on the little granules. This sweet spot makes my 9am classes seem like they won't be too bad after all.
2. Starbucks
For those who want an experience:
Starbucks coffee is undeniably delicious. I also feel like Starbucks gives me the biggest buzz. When I get my venti iced coffee with caramel, I am charged all day and into the night. I can hear colors. I can travel through space and time. I can read braille without touching or looking at it. I swear it feels like I'm on drugs when I drink this stuff. However, for me, I will get Starbucks mainly for the experience. My friends always want to study in Starbucks for the sleek decor and free wifi. This big business gives off chill, indie vibes, and it is easy to treat yourself with a break from your hectic day. This place oozes with tranquility and that's what you are really paying for.
3. Krispy Kreme
For those who want breakfast:
Their plain coffee with no cream and no sugar just does it for me. This stuff is magical. Other than having delicious black coffee, they have pretty good breakfast, too. Dunkin' Donuts' donuts are absolutely nothing in comparison to Krispy Kreme. Their breakfast bangs, and so does their coffee.
4. At Home (Keurig)
For those who are always running late:
This is usually what I resort to. I'm always running late. In fact, I was 30 minutes late to my WRD class today. I love my trusty Keurig. I use this for when it's too early to get coffee, too late to get coffee, or I'm too lazy to go get coffee. My favorite brand is Donut Shop. (Sidenote: The Starbucks K cups are not very good and do not compare in any way to actual Starbucks.)
5. Common Grounds
For those who like coffee that tastes like it was brewed in a prison toilet:
Have you ever seen the polar express? You know that scene where the Christmas hobo ghost makes coffee with his sock in it on the top of the train? Well, if you want to know what that tastes like, order the Mocha Joe. I should've known from the start. My hand grasped the room temperature cup. As I brought the coffee up to my mouth, I noticed the smell. I should've stopped. Then I tasted the brew. I thought maybe something was wrong with me, so I sipped it again. No less than 30 seconds later, poor Mocha Joe found his eternal resting place in the garbage can outside.
