To The Girl Struggling With Self-Confidence

You look good, girl.

To the girl struggling with self-confidence:

First of all, you're not crazy. We all struggle with the want to please others. We all look at ourselves in the mirror and pick out every little flaw we can find. We all want our bodies to be thinner or more muscular. We all have moments where we just don't feel good enough. You are not crazy, and you are certainly not alone.

Secondly, I want you to know how much you deserve to look into the mirror and be happy with the way you look, the way you feel, and the way you think of yourself. I also want you to know that no new expensive face makeup, no acne treatment, and no diet pills are going to make you feel truly happy with yourself. You have to realize your true beauty on your own.

I was on Pinterest a few weeks ago and I ran into a quote that hit me hard. It was a simple 6 words:

Do not be so easily defined.

As a girl who is constantly comparing herself, picking out flaws, and you know, all that ridiculous stuff that us girls tend to do, I truly took this quote to heart. Who am I to pick out one flaw and suddenly make myself feel so insecure? In those moments, I am telling myself that I am defined by this one flaw. I am here to tell you, I am not going to let these things define me.

You are not defined by the clothes you wear, the car you drive, the hair color you have, the body you were born with, or the situation you are in. You are defined by the passion you have for the things you love, the way you handle tough situations, the loyalty you have for your friends, the joy you bring to others, and the way you treat those who can offer you nothing. These are the things that make you beautiful.

We have to realize that we have so much going for us. You have something about you that no one else does. You have the ability to create and do wonderful things. Everyone has their own battle to face, and self-worth should not have to be one of them. You know why? Because you look good girl.

If this past year has taught me one thing, it's that your biggest power is the power to be completely yourself. If you have a passion for something, run with it. If you want to do something, do not let anyone stop you. Your ideas are not stupid. Your goals are not unattainable. Do not be afraid to stand out. Do not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Do not be afraid to do something out of the ordinary. Do not let your insecurities get in the way of living your life to the highest degree. Do not be so easily defined.

PS. you're killing it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
