To The Friend Who Became Family

She is the person who calls you to ask about your family drama before you even knew there was any.

To The Friend Who Became Family

I use the word "best friend" for a lot of people, and I mean it every time I say it. I have plenty of best friends that I don't think I could ever live without. But then there is the best friend who is more than that. The best friend who is family. She's the person who without question is at every major family event, goes shopping with your mom without you, and who asks for updates on how your uncle is handling his separation. She is the person who you would never even question if the friendship will make it past high school or not because family can't leave you.

Your bond is something you can't even really explain. Even though you are both complete opposites in so many ways, you're the same person. And even though you moved away to school and you can't see her every day, she is always in your thoughts. She's the friend who you don't have to talk to every day or even every week because you have no insecurities on your status with each other. You both can appreciate that the other has things to do, and you both support one another in everything. She knows that even though you just gained 100 new friends in your sorority, that it will never replace the love you have for her. And you know that even though she spends every day with her other best friends, that you are her family.

This is the friend that wants to befriend all your other friends rather than envy them for spending every day with you. She adds them on Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. Has their phone numbers and takes selfies with them when she comes to visit. She is not jealous or insecure with you. She always makes you feel supported and loved. She is the friend who you beg to come over because you miss her so much, and then you guys just lay in bed together in silence and take a nap. And you consider that one of the most fun times together, because doing what you'd do alone is just 100 times better with her. She is the friend who doesn't say what you want to hear but is real with you because she loves you too much to lie.

She is the person who will genuinely laugh at every stupid joke you make because you both think you're hilarious. She's the one who you can still talk about eighth-grade insiders with and die laughing even though they are such dead jokes. She is the person who you can be your complete, true self with and never feel an ounce of judgment. The one who you KNOW will be your maid of honor, child's aunt, and number one supporter through anything you do in life.

She is the friend who you literally cannot imagine your life without because you will not allow that thought to ever cross her mind. She is the friend who you might not get to tell enough how much you really love and need her, but when you do, you mean it more than anything.

She is the friend who became my family, the friend I need more than I think she knows, the friend that I am so grateful to have in my life.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
