When I was a little girl, I looked like Dora the Explorer.
My mom would cut my hair into a short bob with very tapered fringe across my forehead. It was just like yesterday; I can imagine my mom pulling me into the bathroom and have me sit on top of the toilet as a wailed and squirmed through the 10 minutes of "utter torture", I would mutter and grips.
As I grew older, I grew out of my hair. I went through all of the headbands, the double pins and grips, the excess amount of hairspray, sticky Suave mousse, and sometimes dealt with the torn hair and scratched up scalp from pinning my bangs back too much--I've done it all. It's pretty hilarious looking back at all of my pictures and the hair transformations I went through.
Looking back, I've realized that cutting my hair isn't as scary or "torturous" as I thought it was. It was just hair, anyway. Coming into high school, I was inspired by many online celebrities and trends wearing this thing called the Lob.
After a long time of going back and forth from the hair dresser, not knowing what I actually wanted my hair to look like, I decided to go full out. I gave the hairdresser a picture of Lucy Hale's famous Lob and she said, "that's what you want?", I responded, "yup", and it happened. I was not one to dramatically obsess over cutting my hair as I got older because I was always reminded that it would just grow back.
Minimal Maintenance
I thought that the look of the Lob was very modern and minimalist. Speaking of being minimal, there's minimal maintenance. My hair is not tangled or extra frizzy like it was when my hair was past my chest. I can wake up and in five minutes, be out the door and ready to go.
Save Money on Products
I probably spend $20 most on hair products, besides shampoo and conditioner that I use every day. Having shorter hair saves me so much money from buying anti-frizz products and all that.
You Look Energized and Put Together
I think that shorter hairstyles, especially the Lob, lift the face and draws attention to all of your beautiful features. With the distraction of a very long mane, it can be hard to focus on what matters most--you!
I feel like these are one of the most important things to remember when cutting your hair. There are many others, like lookin sassy af with your new chopped hairdo but, it all comes down to what you prefer and makes you comfortable. Obviously, there are some downfalls to having short hair like not being able to fully style it in an updo but, there are many other hair styles for short hair to compromise.
Especially since hair grows back, I was never scared to cut my hair. I was actually very excited for new change and a different look. I think at any point in your life, you should make these "outrageous" or "spontaneous" choices and just experience it for once. I love my short hair and I don't know if i'll ever grow it out to as long as it was before.
I know that styles and trends can change and that's okay! If you are wanting to get out of your comfort zone and normal aesthetic, do it. You will only find out what change is like if you actually do it. So go out and chop your hair off!
