You're the one that makes the plans. You're the one that texts first. You're the one that starts the conversation. Sometimes your friendships feel one-sided because it seems you're the only one keeping the friendship going.
It sucks. It sucks to feel like your friends don't want to hang out with you unless you ask them to. It starts to feel like you're forcing them to be with you. That's not how friendship is supposed to be. It sucks to get on social media to see those friends you thought you were so close to having fun without you. Sometimes they don't even tell you they're in town. They could've at least seen if you wanted to join, right? You shouldn't have to always be the one that contributes. Friendship was meant to be a two-way street, not a one-way.
It's even worse because you know you weren't always the forgotten one. There was a time that you were so close with all those friends. Whenever your phone buzzed, you knew it was them. Almost every weekend was spent with them. Things change and sometimes it's just too much to handle.
You don't want to let go of your friends. You still love them and care about them. That's why you still try to text them and hang out with them. But, it just gets tiring.
Maybe you're not forgotten, though. Maybe you're just growing apart. People change and things change. Maybe you've become super involved at your college. Maybe you're focusing more on your studies. Maybe you got a demanding job. So maybe you're not forgotten, maybe you're just drifting apart.
It's okay to drift apart. It's natural. Some people are meant to stay in your life and some aren't. It's sad, but it's also supposed to happen.
The ones that are supposed to stay will. They'll be the ones that don't make you feel forgotten. They'll make you feel like you're loved and needed.
If someone makes you feel forgotten, then let them forget you. Keep in touch if you want, but don't let them make you feel worthless. You have other amazing people that want to be with you. The ones that make you feel forgotten are the ones that don't need to be in your life. Don't be forgotten.
So to the forgotten friend: know your worth. If you feel forgotten, then it's time to be with people who don't forget you. If you want to be with certain people, then be with them. But if trying to be with them makes you feel forgotten and alone, then maybe it's time to let them drift away. Be with the ones that appreciate you. Be with the ones that remember you. So I beg you: know your worth. Don't be pushed around. Be with people that make you feel loved. Don't let yourself be forgotten.
