The First Week Of College As Told By A Hot Mess
Prospect

Back to school! Ah, yes! What an exciting time of year. Game days, roommate slumber parties, reuniting with all your college friends, all-nighters in the lib, mental breakdowns, being broke AF again because you’ve spent all your money on Starbucks and/or booze. Yes, coming back to college in the fall is one of the absolute best things in the world, but when you’re not a put together person, and your phrase for the school year is already, "my life is in shambles," then that’s another story for sure. Basically, being a hot mess and taking on college is going to either make me or break me this year. And I just went to three wrong classes on my first day as a sophomore.

There’s a moment of realization every hot mess eventually comes to, you basically not only accept the fact that you're a hot mess, but learn to embrace it, and this past week I reached mine.

My roommates and I decided to go to Flume the night before the big move-in-day, oh and why wouldn't a tire pop on the way back to EL.

The cute little “fixer-upper” we decided to rent has a roof leak, oh and a little bit of black mold, and everything in Vic's room becomes damp when it rains, all of this our landlords of course failed to mention.

We also have yet to put any of the utilities transferred into our names', clearly we're killing it at this whole adult thing.

Speaking of utilities, the other night we broke the knob off of our sink and thought our house was going to over flow with water.

Our upstairs bathroom still has no shower curtain.

And grocery shopping with six girls, while one of them sits in a cart is now a thing, let's just say we got a lot of dirty looks.

Keeping track of a remote the size of a pair of glasses should be considered an Olympic sport.

Not that we would medal in any sport, were honestly so clumsy and uncoordinated they probably wouldn’t even let our country compete.

Basically, if this past week has been an indication for how this years going to go, let's just say were going to need a lot of help, and it's not even the first week of fall.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
