The Multiple Feels A PNM Experiences During Recruitment

I have wanted to join a sorority ever since I was a freshman in high school. I never really knew how the process worked or what sororities were like, but I just knew that I was going to rush. Before going through recruitment, I did some research on what to wear, what to talk about, etc. All of the articles that I read warned me of the emotional week ahead of me, but I did not even know how the process could be emotional – I mean you're talking to girls you don't even know! But, now that I went through the process, I know about all of the "feels" during recruitment.

1. The "I'm so nervous" feel.

This usually occurs before going into your first house. Even though you have a generic understanding of how round one works, you are excited and nervous to experience it yourself.

2. The "LET'S DO THIS" feel.

If your first house went smoothly, then you will probably feel like you are ready to conquer the rest of the parties.

3. The "I hope this gets better" feel.

Or, if you did not have a great first party, then you might feel a little discouraged, but it will get better from here! Usually, the first party can be awkward for both the PNM and the sister.

4. The "I swear if I have to say what my major is one more time ..." feel.

You are going to have the same conversation at every single house, so get ready to repeat and look alive.

5. The "OMG! Why is every dressed cuter than me" feel.

Seriously, I felt like I was dressed like a third grader next to all of the stylish girls that were standing next to me in line. But, whatever you end up wearing, wear it with confidence because at the end of the day, the sororities look at personality over style.

6. The "I have trust issues" feel.

Sometimes things do not go your way ... You will feel that you connected with a girl on another level and that XYZ chapter is the one for you, but then your schedule the next day says otherwise. Do not feel discouraged. My Rho Gamma changed my perspective on it when she said "Maybe they thought you were awesome, but you would grow more in another chapter." I would just say to trust the system, because it always works out!

7. The "I don't even know how to feel" feel.

You may get an awesome girl rushing you and start to fall in love with the sorority and then you go back the next day and get a different girl that doesn't even seem interested in talking to you. This may lead you to start second guessing yourself. But, if it comes down to that, focus on the atmosphere in the house and their philanthropies.

8. The "Why did I not wear waterproof mascara?" feel.

Usually on Preference Night, the sisters share why their chapter is important to them and some even share how their chapter helped them through tough times. Tears. Tears, everywhere.

9. The "YES HEL––I mean Recruitment Week is over!" feel.

Don't get me wrong, this week was a great experience for me! But, feeling sweat roll down your back, getting sandal tans and being so exhausted you want to keel over is not exactly my idea of a fun time.

10. The "LET ME OPEN MY BID DAY CARD ALREADY" feel.

I don't know about y'all, but here at UCF they make you literally sit on your Bid for thirty minutes before you can open them. Yes, it is absolute torture.

11. The "Watch out world, this sorority girl is running home" feel.

After a long week of tears and sweat while trying to look perfect, you get to run to your home for the next 4 years and your sisters for life and it is the best feeling ever.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
