The new year has kicked in alongside the new you. You’re determined to make this year better than all the rest by being confident, taking risks, saying yes, and stepping outside of your comfort zone. It's time to free fall into the life you want to live. The year of facing your fears. As frightening as that may sound, well let’s just tell the truth like it is, there’s no better way to sugar coat it. Facing your fears is terrifying as hell but here are a few ways to how you can stop letting fears steer your life, so you can meet your bolder, more fearless self.
Identify Your Fears
Jumping out of a plane, letting the waves of the ocean rush to your feet, or riding the daunting roller coaster at your favorite amusement park are all great places to begin. Facing these types of fears are just as important as the ones you encounter daily. Think about what really scares you. The fear of going for a huge interview afraid that you're underqualified. Maybe it’s the fear that you’re going to fail so you don’t even try. Or do you have a fear of speaking up because of that other fear of being judged? Take some time to offer yourself food for thought of what scares you the most. Now that you see what your true fears are, the realness sinks in when you bring them to light. It’s not about getting rid of them, it’s about coming face to face with them.
Get Uncomfortable
Often times we find ourselves magnetized to things we are comfortable with. We stand in our safe zones while our fears are locked away in a forbidden room. That is until now. This is the part where our hearts feel as if they will skip a beat. This is the moment when our palms get sweaty and we take slow deep breaths. Uncomfortable thinking about opening the door to your fear? Good. When you have reached this point there's no backing out or turning around. The fear exists because of you and you are also the maker of the forbidden sign. So tear it down.
Face Your Fear
Unfortunately, you can't just zap your fears away but you can tackle them by facing them. Hiding from your fears or hiding them away from you is bad.Mentally prepare yourself with motivation, encouragement and wise words. Remember how much more powerful and stronger you are than your fears. Anything you want in life you have an opportunity to grab. Don't allow your fears to be the reason you couldn't grab or didn't try to reach for what you want. When opening the door do so as slowly as you'd like or treat it as ripping off a band-aid. This is the most daunting part but once you see it, you have the power to decide how you approach it. When you are faced with your fear, it's okay to tremble a little, but everything from this point is controlled by your thoughts.
The Biggest Fear
No matter what your fear is there is one more terrifying than the rest. Letting your fear control you. Just picture everything that you may miss out on, experiences that you may let pass by but later regret, opportunities that may only come once but you'd never know because you let fear prevent you from trying. The worst fear is living each day knowing something great could've come about if you had just opened the door. Regrets can be more haunting than most things we fear. While you have the chance stand up to your fear before you have to replay the horrifying thoughts of what could've been.
Being fearless is about recognizing what your fears are and daring to take them head on. It's knowing your capable of flying with a fear of heights so you leap anyway. It's knowing that you won't allow yourself to stand in your own way of what you want and who you want to be. You have no separate room with your fear locked away. Your fears are always with you as you may worry or think about them often, especially when having to face them. Fearless isn't avoiding them.Use fear as the fuel that drives you to your limit, so you see what you are capable of. Your fears have no match against you. Be bold, brave, take risks and say hello to the fearless you.
