Your first year of college. You anticipate this year your whole life. In high school, all you can dream of is your first year of college. How much fun it will be to live on your own, with your friends. You will actually be away from your family, and you will be dreading the moment when you have to leave your dog behind. Senior year of high school rolls around and you start to think about all the acceptance letters to different colleges. Where will all your friends be going to school? Will you be going to college with your boyfriend or will you attempt long distance? How far away from home do you want to go? You probably have a thousand questions going through your head.
Once you decide where you’re going to go to college it all becomes very exciting. You will probably join a facebook group with all the incoming freshmen for your school. You will secretly be determining who you think your friends will be and potential roommates. You will be trying to work as much as possible the summer before college because let’s face it, you don’t want a job your first semester of college. Your high school friends will probably be spread across the country next year, and so you are trying to spend every minute of free time you have with them. Then it’s time, you are packing up your car and driving to your new school.
You finally arrive at your school. You have all this built up excitement. You begin to take all of your boxes from your car and go up the elevator. You say hello to every person you see - this is the moment you’ve been waiting for. You get up to your dorm room, slide your key, the light turns green and your door opens. Walking in you see the empty dorm bed, the empty dresser, and desk and you can’t wait to unpack. You unpack your room and set it all up. Meet your roommates, suite mates, floor mates and you can’t wait for what the year will bring. The next few days are exciting, you are living on your own and meeting all these new people. You talk to every person you see, and everyone is so friendly.
Little do you know that these next few months will fly by. The sleepovers you have with your friends, the nights you go out, the never ending laughter, and at some points you are all basically in tears because of finals week. When you decide to move all your mattress in one room, because this is the last week before Christmas break. You will never experience freshmen year again. This is one of the best times of your life and you need to cherish these moments. You are growing up fast and these moments won’t last forever. It’s one week before we all go home and I can’t believe how fast these past two semesters went by. Next year won’t be the same, everyone will be going in different directions. We have to “adult” more. Never take your freshmen year of college for granted. You won’t have many more memories of these sleepovers in your room, staying up till 2am and talking about the most random things. The weekly movie nights or crowding around the small tv to watch dance moms.
