The Fallen Five and Why They Matter To You

What is the American Way?

A few weeks ago, we witnessed a horrible tragedy. Five Service Members passed away in an act of murder in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Four Marines and a Sailor. They were brutally attacked while unarmed and gunned down by a radical Islamic terrorist.

To top it off, it took our government’s administration a week to lower the flags to half-mast. Yes, there was a brief statement about the tragedy made, but only after a lengthy tribute that was made to Islam and the holiday of Ramadan. That doesn’t quite sit well with me, however I digress.

Why should these gentlemen and this unfortunate event matter to you when it doesn’t seem to with so many others?

They are our countrymen.

This happened “at home”.

The bad guys are here.

We, as country, need to learn to stand back together for something that truly matters again.

These gentlemen were the unfortunate victims of a terrorist attack. A religious fanatic brutally murdered them. There is no other way around it. We are steadily continuing to turn tail at issues that threaten our safety and our livelihood. These men were not combatants; these men were going to their daily jobs. However, when other controversial issues have been brought up, ruled on, or on national media they have garnered more attention and spotlight.

Examples of such issues are the legalization gay marriage, Baltimore, police shootings, and so forth. These issues are worth noting, and I'm not trying to take away from that. Yet, when gay marriage was legalized, the White House was lit in rainbows within two hours. However, it took five days for flags to be lowered to half-mast by the “top." Why? What is the issue here?

Again, why does this matter to you?

These men were our people; they were brothers, fathers, husbands and sons. Yet when the wolf has growled at our door, we have let them in or just thrown some rotten meat to distract it while we act like everything around us is okay. As a generation it is time for us to bring back patriotism, love of country and countrymen, our Constitution and our freedoms. All of which are quickly eroding.

Most of us are concerned about what is on television or how long it will take us to get to the pool. I, myself, unfortunately do the same. I’m not saying that we should not do these things however, there is a bigger picture. It is time for us once again to ACT like AMERICANS. When the wolf growls and attacks, we protect our pack and we fight to defend what those before us have created. We protect, so that those after us can still enjoy what was created. Yet we haven’t and are not.

These men deserve our prayers, condolences, our loyalty and our respect along with their families. We need to be the change we want to see in our blessed by God country. We need to stand beside these men and stand strong because it is our duty as Americans to do so. To stand up to those who wish to destroy us. To stand with those who are fighting, have fought, and will fight. It is time to show that we are different because we are Americans and we will stand strong in times of diversity and sorrow. I love this country and the principles in which we were founded on. I will stand. Will you?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
