Part time jobs are very hard to come by sometimes. It is also impossible to live without having some sort of income nowadays. Working in retail has taught me a lot, especially when it comes to the general public. Here are a few things most customers have asked me in the past that stick out to me.
1. It's 8 a.m. -- why are you not in school?
Well, if you haven't realized, someone needs to work the early morning shift so you can buy your chicken before the sun is even up. But did it ever occur to you that, considering it is only 7 a.m., I might be attending night classes?
2. Is there another register open?
If there is no one else standing at a register, and there is no other register's light on, then that is pretty self-explanatory.
3. Are you even old enough to work here?
This question literally kills me. First of all, it's rude. Second, why would a company hire me if I am not old enough to be working there?
4. Are you even tall enough to see over the register?
This is not even funny, it is almost border-line harassment, and it is rude. Clearly, I can see perfectly fine since I can see what an insensitive jerk you are.
5. Can you give me your employee discount?
My favorite question! No. I do not even get an employee discount, I am lucky I get a paycheck at the end of the week.
6. Oh, it's not ringing up right, so is it free?
No. Nothing in life is free. Chill for two minutes while I have someone check the price.
