In the R-rated political satire entitled “The Campaign,” Will Ferrell assumes the role of Cam Brady, a congressman from North Carolina who is unexpectedly challenged by newcomer Marty Huggins for his seat in the House.
The movie, which clearly intends to exaggerate the political climate surrounding elections, provides more insight into the wonderful world of Washington than any American citizen would hope. For as the presidential race of 2016 has come to show, it is actually that bad.
Here are some examples:
1. Donald Trump comparing Ben Carson to a child molester vs. Cam Brady implying Marty Huggins is a Muslim extremist
“It's in the book that he's got a pathological temper…That's a big problem because you don't cure that ... as an example: child molesting. You don't cure these people. You don't cure a child molester. There's no cure for it. Pathological, there's no cure for that,” Donald Trump.
“Al Qaeda, The Taliban, one thing unites all of them in their blood pacts-facial hair. There’s someone else in North Carolina that has facial hair: Marty Huggins,” Cam Brady.
2. Economic Solutions from Jeb Bush and Cam Brady
“My aspiration for the country and I believe we can achieve it, is four percent growth as far as the eye can see…Which means we have to be a lot more productive, workforce participation has to rise from its all-time modern lows. It means that people need to work longer hours,” Jeb Bush.
“Jobs in North Carolina mean what? A strong North Carolina. And a strong North Carolina means a strong America and that my friends is how we are going to do it,” Cam Brady.
3. Donald Trump accusing Bernie Sanders of being a Communist vs. Marty Huggins accusing Cam Brady of being a Communist
“Nobody heard the term communist, but you know what, I call him a socialist/communist, okay? ‘Cause that’s what he is,” Donald Trump.
“I believe in American ingenuity and hard work unlike my friend here Cam Brady who believes everyone should live in 'Rainbow Land.' I’m referring to a 13 page doctrine written by Camden Brady called 'Rainbow Land.' Anybody that writes about the redistribution of wealth sounds like a communist to me,” Marty Huggins.
4. D.C. Metaphors from Ben Carson and Marty Huggins
“Did you know Washington is built on a swamp?…Together we can drain the swamp and protect our children's future,” Ben Carson.
“Lets clean up D.C. and bring your brooms because it’s a mess!” Marty Huggins
5. Sexist comments from Donald Trump and Cam Brady
“You know, it really doesn’t matter what the media writes as long as you’ve got a young and beautiful piece of ass,” Donald Trump.
"Everyday I come in contact with women. Do I sometimes fantasize about their undergarments? Sure. Do I go uhlululuh when I see them? No!" Cam Brady.
6. The Jesus-and-freedom-card from Mike Hukabee and Cam Brady
“This Thanksgiving weekend let's not just focus on food and football, but on what makes our country exceptional -- faith and freedom,” Mike Hukabee.
"And I want to make you a promise today, that if you send me back to Washington D.C. for a 5th consecutive term, I will let them know it is about America, Jesus, and freedom,” Cam Brady.
7. Irrelevant Campaign Ads from Rick Santorum and Cam Brady
“Ted Cruz is wonderful at reading children's fairytales on the Senate floor. You want someone to read one helluva bedtime story, Ted Cruz is your guy. If you want to protect America and defeat ISIS, Rick Santorum is your President. Because serious times need serious people,” Rick Santorum.
“Marty Huggins can’t even take care of his own wife so I did. That night Marty’s wife voted, multiple times,” Cam Brady.
8. Hilary Clinton's email scandal vs. Cam Brady's phone call scandal
“You may have seen that I recently released a snap chat account. I love it, I love it. Those messages disappear all by themselves,” Hilary Clinton.
“I have made in my lifetime probably over
100 thousand phone calls of which I could say maybe one percent have been
inappropriate, that’s what a thousand phone calls? A thousand phone calls have
been rude, inappropriate, sexually explicit phone calls that I wish I could take
back. But that’s only 1,000 out of 100 thousand, ill take those odds any day,” Cam Brady.
