It’s crazy to me that you’re already 15 years old and a big bad sophomore in high school. I can still remember the day that you were born, holding you, and knowing that you would soon take away all of my 3-year-old self’s attention. Despite this, I was overjoyed to be your older sister. With this title comes the duty to fill you in on the hard lesson that I had to learn myself: The Boy Lesson.
But, before I start with my advice, I think that you owe me a big thank you for breaking mom and dad in. I taught them a lot about how to handle a misbehaving teen and, so far, you look like an angel. I also broke in the whole “having a boy over,” so they will be more prepared and rehearsed when your time comes. (You’re very welcome.)
So about that boy that you think that you like. Ask yourself these four questions:
- Would mom and dad like him?
- Does he have a good reputation?
- Does he have the same value system?
- Is he cute?
I know that it seems like mom and dad are picky about the boys that you’re interested in, but that’s only because they’re looking out for your best interest. Trust me, as weird as it may sound, parents are normally right. Your heart might be too blind to show you that he’s not the one, so listen to them. You’re a gem and you deserve an amazing boy.
The boy that you date says a lot about who you are, even if you don’t intend it to. People who don’t know you, but know your boyfriend, will assume that you partake in the same activities that he does or act the way that he does. This is why it is important for you to find someone who is respectful, well-liked and an overall good guy.
It is so important, even in high school, to find a boy who has the same morals that you do. There is nothing worse than falling in love with a boy who pressures you to do things outside of your comfort zone. If a boy ever pressures you--leave. He is not worth it. A guy who loves you would never push you past your beliefs.
Obviously, number four isn’t as important, but it’s still always good to be able to brag about your boy. Make sure that you’re attracted to him, both mentally and physically. You’re beautiful inside and out and deserve a boy who is too.
I can’t wait to meet the boy who is lucky enough to call my sister his. You are a prize and I hope that you know your worth. You are one of the most genuine, respectful, loving, and trustworthy girls that I have ever met. Even though I have a few years on you, I still look up to you. So when the time comes and you think that you’ve found a keeper, remember the kind of man that you deserve.
Love,
Your Wise Big Sis
