I am just a 20 year old college guy, who just so happens to hold one of the best jobs of all time. For 10 years now I have been an uncle. Being an uncle to these little boys and girls is incredible and I wouldn't trade it for the world. Although I love my nephews half to death, there is a special bond between and uncle and his nieces.
Being so young of age, I don't have kids of my own and these little ones act as mine whenever I spend time with them. I take them to the movies, mini-golf, and zoo. I buy them things when we go, I take care of them if something happens.
The only thing thats different is, I don't always have to be the bad guy. I can give them things they normally aren't allowed to eat, and let them watch shows their parents wouldn't want them to watch. I always get to be the cool one, and thats always a good gig.
So my nieces, Sage, Camille, and Lilly are three of the most important people in my life. Lilly was the first born out of the girls, and lives the closest so she will always hold a special place in my heart. I spent numerous hours watching shows on saturday morning with her, curled up on the couch. She is smarter than you'd ever know, and actually just wants her brother and family to be happy and does what she can to make them so.
Sage, the little snot lives about 45 minutes from me and is the cutest thing in the entire world. She has more personality than most people I know, and is far from afraid to let you know how she feels. She has a wit about her, that just spells out trouble. But even with that wit, she has a way of melting your heart by laying in a hammock with you and watching the Lego Movie.
Now Camille, she lives in Tampa, Florida. Which at first made it really hard to bond with her seeing as I don't see her for the most of the year. But one day, at another sisters wedding we just sort of clicked. Now I can't imagine what i would do without her, those random phone calls where a little girl is talking to me about dating, and how she thinks I can find better than the last. Mind you, my nieces and nephews range from about 5-11.
Camille, is older than her years and shows that off immensely. Personally I look forward to seeing them all equally, but its a special occasion when I get to see her. Being so far from little ones is hard, because you don't get to see her first gymnastics competition. Or her sing a solo in the school concert.
I got to see all of those things for Lilly, and if I probably will for Sage as well. I will never in my life want to trade in being an uncle for anything, especially to a couple of incredible little girls like these. It is just an experience I wish everyone got the chance at, this young in their life.
