As long summer days on the beach come to a close, it is almost time to start packing up our cars and heading back to school. Some might say that the end of summer is the worst time of the year, but for most of us college kids, we can't wait to get back to our routines. We will once again be sitting in classrooms and spending long hours in the library planning out our weekends instead of actually studying. All of this just means more trips to Bed, Bath and Beyond, Staples, and Target to pick out the perfect school supplies. Who are we kidding? It doesn't matter how old you are, back-to-school time will always be exciting.
As nice as it was to have a break from all the stress, if you aren't at least a little bit excited to go back to school then you haven't found the right place for you. The start of a new school year gives you the chance to set yourself up for success and begin the year on a positive note. Forget any problems that may have lingered into the summer from the spring semester and start fresh. Plus the excitement of getting to decorate a new living space always helps.
Yes, back to school means back to the daily routine of being assigned homework and cramming for exams at 2a.m., that you feel like you are probably going to fail anyway. However I know that when I think of heading back to campus, I tend to overlook those minor details and focus on all of the events that are coming up. Fall in college means sorority recruitment (YAY!), football games, involvement fairs with more free stuff than you know what to do with, and {of course} there is syllabus week.
The first few weeks back in classes are the best -- homework will be light, kids actually show up to class, and your social life is finally starting to pick back up. Making the most out of those first few weeks is the best way to make sure that you have an amazing semester. Get organized. Figure out which textbooks you are actually going to use. And HAVE FUN!
Remember, college may be the best four years of your life but you also only have four years to make the best of being young + setting yourself up for success. So instead of dwelling on long classroom hours or worrying about your GPA, take back-to-school time for what it is... the best time of the year.
