Everyone has experienced it before — being stressed out is the worst. With the school year about to start in just a few short weeks, that means stress too…and it already has for some! However, there are so many different ways to deal with stress and channel it into more meaningful things. These are a few of my suggestions, but come up with some of your own that work for you!
1. Work out.
Working out is always a go-to when you’re feeling stressed. Why not take your stress and channel it into something while burning calories/staying fit at the same time? Whether it be a soul-cycle class, a relaxing run around your neighborhood, a scenic hike, a visit to the gym, etc., a little sweat always helps to relieve some nerves. And a good playlist to go with it is always a must!
2. Listen to music.
This one goes hand-in-hand with No. 1. However, whether you’re working out or not, having a good playlist is a necessity. Listening to music to clear your head is always a good distraction from whatever stressors are bothering you. Make your own playlist, or follow other people (even me!) on SoundCloud, Spotify, etc.!
3. Surround yourself with other people.
This one sounds so simple, but you’d be surprised how far it can take you. Getting your mind off of whatever is stressing you out is important, so try to surround yourself with friends that you know will get your mind off of it. Even if you’re just hanging out, being with others always helps. You can even try my other suggestions; go on a hike with a friend!
4. Read.
A good book to destress is always helpful. When watching TV, it’s so easy to sit with your thoughts and stress yourself out even more. If you read a book, it keeps your mind fully occupied since you’re actively reading. Keep yourself occupied with fictional characters’ lives, and try not to worry about the stressors in yours!
5. Treat yourself.
Personally, when my stress builds up, I get knots in my back and shoulders that just make the stress even worse. Once in a while, I like to treat myself to a massage! Getting all the tension out of my shoulders is both physically and mentally relieving. There are so many other options, too. Try getting a relaxing facial, or even do your own facial at home!
