It’s that time of year again! From the excessive amount of flower crowns and selfies to an even larger amount of music-loving fans from all over the world, Coachella has remained one of the most hyped events in the music industry.
Set in Indio, California from April 15, 2016 to April 24, 2016, headliners take the stage to create a visually aesthetic performance to a sold-out crowd. This year, Coachella did not disappoint with a lineup of musical all-stars.
If you were lucky enough to snag a ticket to this year’s Coachella, you were definitely in for a treat. Unlike many festivals, Coachella adds an element of surprise. With almost every performance comes a surprise performer, which obviously leaves the audience feeling on top of the world.
Here were this year’s best moments of Coachella 2016:
Sia
It’s no surprise that Sia is one of the most underrated artists of our generation. From her mysterious identity to her heart-wrenching vocals, Sia has proven time after time that she belongs on the main stage. For her performance, she adapted her viral music video of “Chandelier” to the stage with the help of dancer Maddie Zeigler. Along with the appearance of Zeigler, Sia also brought out numerous dancers to create a visually perfected show. Sia was most definitely one of the highlights of this year’s Coachella.
Disclosure
Another highlighted performance at Coachella 2016 was the electronic duo Disclosure. From their powerful beats to their hooking lyrics, Disclosure created a visually aesthetic show for the audience to feast their eyes upon. Of course, with the help of Sam Smith’s sharp vocals on 2013’s “Latch” as well as 2015’s “Omen,” Disclosure won over the crowd. There’s no surprise that they will be invited back next year.
Halsey
Newcomer singer-songwriter Halsey took the main stage at Coachella for the first time ever. Her opening song “Gasoline” fueled the tension that hooked the audience for more. After performing various tracks from her debut album Badlands, which debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 Albums chart, she brought out a surprising guest. Panic! at the Disco’s Brendon Urie joined Halsey on stage for a collaboration of Panic! at the Disco’s “I Write Sins Not Tragedies.” The duo wowed the audience with the unexpected collaboration. It’s safe to say Halsey left her mark at Coachella.
Zedd
One of the most talked about performances was electronic producer Zedd. With the surprising guest appearance of Kesha, who has been in a legal battle with producer Dr. Luke for several years, it was amazing to see her on stage again. The pair performed “True Colors” off of Zedd’s latest album True Colors. The performance generated so much discussion that eventually led to Zedd and Kesha recording a studio version that was released on April 29, 2016.
Calvin Harris
Calvin Harris was the first DJ to play Coachella as a Premier Headliner, and he did not disappoint. With tracks like “I Need Your Love,” “Sweet Nothing,” and “How Deep Is Your Love,” Calvin Harris left it all out on the stage as Coachella 2016. With a surprise appearance of Rihanna for their 2011 #1 Hit “We Found Love,” the audience went insane. Other appearances by Big Sean and John Newman only fueled Calvin Harris’ performance even more.
