We all come across situations in our lives where our friends prove themselves. True colors are shown in a variation of ways. Sometimes you have to find out who your friends are the hard way and its not fun, but they make you think "I'll keep you."

1. The ones you can sit and do homework with for hours.
You may sit in silence, or you may distract each other for hours on end, but neither of you wants to be alone even if you're just doing homework. The ones you can sit there with through the frustration of school work are the ones to really keep around.

2. The ones who tell you it's okay to be mad at them.
They may offer you unsolicited advice because you know they're going to tell you something you don't want to hear. They accept the fact that they don't like what they have to tell you and they tell you that you are allowed to be angry at them, and they have problem with it.

3. The ones who will let you eat food in their bed.
It might be Saturday night, and you might be eating Chinese takeout, or maybe something really random from their fridge. They let you sit there and eat as much as you want and never kick you out even though it's midnight and they want to go to sleep.

4. The ones who let you know there is a new season of your favorite show on Netflix.
They know what your favorite shows are and they know you have a lot of homework due next week, but they also know how stressed you are so they give you the really great news they feel you deserve. You get that beloved text, "SEASON FIVE OF NEW GIRL IS NOW ON NETLFIX."

5. The ones whose pets think you belong to their family.
The animals not only respect your presence, but they love when you come over. They let you cuddle with them like you're they're owner and they miss you when you're gone. It's a part of life that you really love, and it helps you to know that friend is really great.

6. The ones who take care of you when you're sad.
If you just got your heart broken, or you're trying to make a really tough life decision and you're really sad about it, or if your animal is sick and you just want to take care of it. Your friends know what you need and they will talk you through any problems that you may have and they don't care how much driving they have to do to do it.

7. The ones who let you know they love you by saying, literally, anything but "I love you."
"You're trash." "Get out of my room." "I can't stand you." You know your friends love you by the words they use and you really know they're great when it's never anything positive because you know that when you really need their love, they'll give it to you.
