Here’s something slightly sappy than the usual informative secularism and LGBT articles I write because the beginning of the school year takes a lot of time and…well…that tends to be the only thing on our minds when this starts.
School is starting again and it’s the time that people are moving in, classes are starting, and when we all get used to the cafeteria food again…unless you’re a freshman. In that case, good luck getting used to the food. You’ll get tired of it really quickly. We’ll go hang out with friends. We’ll make new friends. We’ll possibly sit alone and wait until certain events to even try meeting new people. It all depends on who you are as a social or non-social person.
But that is the thing. Your experience in college is all subjective and it’s all based on your personality and how you react in certain situations. You might like something while another person might now and that can be dependent on your personalities.
I’m sure I’ll enjoy my time, but I’m going to be honest. I have to break through this shell of shyness in order to be able to do that. I’ve already had certain issues trying to meet new people and I’m too shy to even try to hang out with the people I know. There is the exception of a couple of people, but they are ones I’ve known for so long before college.
And that’s the thing. College makes us get out of our comfort zone when we need to, but it is your choice. It’s fine if you don’t get out of your comfort zone though. Some people are fine with being by themselves and watching Netflix all day or doing something on their own. Some people have major anxiety and will probably take baby steps if they want to do these things with people and that’s also fine. We shouldn’t dictate what people should do and we shouldn’t let people dictate what we do. Anybody who says otherwise may not be that great of a person. Suggestions are okay, but it is important to know when it goes a step too far.
That’s all really. College is what you make of it and it depends on what you do and how you do it. It’s all based on your perspective so you should do the things that will make it worth it for you.
