So we all know that on October 31st men around the world shave their face as smooth as they can get it, to grow it all back again for "Movember." That's right, the month of seeing men of all ages growing all types of mustaches and some going even further to finally get that beard they've been dreaming about having since they were a pubescent teen (trying to seem cooler than they were with the tiniest peach fuzz they thought looked great). To some, it's a total turn-on whereas others would rather eat a pound of inferno wings before coming near a beard.
Recently, I had read and reviewed an anthology compiled of short stories called Because Beards that was written by twenty-one authors, all relating to one main theme...
Beards.
Now at first, I was a little skeptical, because I didn't think that there would be a possibility that all of these authors would be able to write a different story relating to a man with a beard, but I was wrong. It also made me rethink the whole idea about seeing the opposite sex with a beard. I do have to give a little warning to say that it is in no way the type of book you would want to read in public, because we all know that one person who sits directly across from you is staring without even glancing away, somehow knowing that you are reading an "inappropriate" book (It's not like your reddened face gave it away or anything...) This book really dives into the fantasies some women must have with a muscle-y man who hasn't shaved in a while. Maybe it's the power it gives, the manliness it bestows, or just the fact that people really like that rough look and are always wanting to touch it for some reason.
Anyway, as I finished the book, I started to see more and more men with beards. Some being around my own age, others older, but definitely many of them clean and believe it or not, attractive. I'm not entirely sure if it was the fact that I happened to be reading this book during Movember, or just that I've clearly had my head in too many books to see my surroundings. Whatever the case, beards are making a huge appearance this year, and I am definitely not upset about it...okay, well maybe for some. You know, the ones that are so long and unkept, you could eat a bowl of soup from? Yeah, I think I'll pass!
The best part about the book Because Beards is that all of the proceeds will be going to the Movember Foundation to help in research and treatments to testicular cancer, and men's health. So not only are you getting a little sizzle from these short stories, but you are also helping out a great cause. What a genius idea! So even if you aren't into beards, but know someone that is, might as well give a gift that keeps on giving!
So regardless if they're long, short, curly or full blown duck dynasty, these beards are here to stay...for the month at least, whether we like it or not.
