The other day while walking around campus, I kept seeing the same guy everywhere I went. I took a stroll through TUC, and there he was. I grabbed a morning breakfast tea from Starbucks, and he was there, sipping a tall latte. I took a seat in my marketing class, and he was sitting in the very same row. I was honestly sure this random dude was following me everywhere I went.
And then I realized something. It wasn’t the same guy. All day, I was seeing different men who looked exactly the same.
And I mean everything was the same. Bean boots. Sensible khakis. Overpriced Patagonia pullovers. Even the things they say are similar. Men like this can commonly be caught saying phrases such as “it’s lit,” or “I’m definitely taller than 6 feet,” or, “I want to take you on a date.”
So, what is this phenomenon? Why does every dude on campus look exactly the same? Why does everyone talk about basic girls and no one says a thing about basic men? Can anyone help me answer these questions?
We may never know why people refrain from discussing the lives of basic fraternity men, but it’s about time we start a conversation. And remember – the next time you feel like a basic fraternity man is stalking you, it’s probably not the case.
