For those of you who don't watch "The Bachelor," let me shed some light on the inner workings of this reality show. The show follows 28 women who are fighting for the love of one man. So basically, one guy is dating 28 women at one time. Crazy, right? While I am an avid watcher of this show, I constantly find myself asking the same question over and over again: why would women do this to themselves? I have never understood how some women can come on the show confident that they will be the one chosen to marry the guy when there are 27 other women that they are fighting against for his love and attention. I also never understood how some women can just keep coming back season after season to only experience the same heartbreak again.
The women who come on "The Bachelor" come from all walks of life. Some have jobs, some don't. Some have children, such as Amanda from the current season. No matter where they come from, they all have one thing in mind: love. "The Bachelor" makes love out to be its top priority, however, after watching several seasons, I'm starting to question whether the emotion felt between the man and the girl who is chosen is love or lust. More than half of the relationships that spawn from "The Bachelor" end within months of the final rose ceremony. While there are a few lucky souls whose love survives after the final rose, Sean and Catherine from season 17 for example, most of the relationships ultimately fail. Why is this? Part of it probably has to do with the fact that both people only have 10 weeks to get to know each other. That's only a little over two months. It takes so much longer than two months to get to know someone.
The women who go on these shows are also hurting their chances of finding another relationship outside of "The Bachelor." Take Olivia from the current season, for example. Olivia is revealed through the show to be very manipulative, selfish and just a little crazy. Now that she is no longer on the show, what are her chances of finding love outside of "The Bachelor" when everyone who watches the show knows her true personality? I know I would not want her to date my brother, cousin, etc. These women are giving themselves a bad reputation by behaving the way they do on the show. I know most of it is acting for the cameras and to make the show more dramatic, but a big majority of it is real. Why would you do that to yourself? Why would you allow yourself to be presented in such a manner? It is ruining their reputation.
Ladies, there are plenty of other ways to find love and companionship that don't require you to make a complete fool of yourself on television for the whole world to see. Years may pass, but that never goes away! These women are only hurting themselves by doing this. I know if you're on the show, you get to hang out with a gorgeous guy and you get to go to places you may never have been able to go to otherwise, but you also run the risk of getting your heart shattered into a million pieces. Is it really worth it? In my opinion, absolutely not!
