When I think of ODU, I think about how I used to go to high school football games and practice field hockey on their fields. This is the school my parents got their degrees from. However, there has been some recent news about my hometown college, that is very upsetting for me to hear about. Old Dominion University has been in the news for hanging offensive banners outside of a Sigma Nu fraternity house across from campus. Sure there have been numerous accounts of fraternities posting signs warning dear old dad about how they are going to hook up with their daughters or party with them, but in today's time the world is more focused on issues like sexual assault than they were back then. There have been so many other issues with situations like this across the country, and I've even gotten warnings from my father about the same type of behavior. I don't think any dad would be comfortable dropping their little princess off at a college with those signs posted.
Did they go too far? You may disagree with me but that is not a very friendly welcome. When I walk around campus, I want to feel like I'm somewhere safe, yes I know that there is more crime going on in the city of Norfolk, but as a college student myself these are very risky situations. I'm sure the banners were just meant for fun and games but as a female, I think its time to retire this joke frat boys.
