Recently, someone asked me what my writing process is like for writing an article. Truthfully, I do not have a process. I do not do any pre-writing (sorry, prior English teachers of mine). I simply just write about things that inspire me spur of the moment. However, I will say I do go through a series of stages while writing an article. The Odyssey has given me the opportunity to write painstaking, tear-jerking and hilarious articles I get to share with the world. With that being said, here is my article on the painstaking, tear-jerking and hilarious stages I endure for my writing brought to you by the one and only Spongebob Squarepants.
1. Stage One: Brainstorming
It is the first day. Your article is due at the end of the week. So many ideas flowing through your mind. They all sound so fire, but which one do you choose?
2. Stage Two: Procrastination
A few days later..
3. Stage Three: Determination
OK, you have had enough break time now. It is time to get back in the groove and finish the article that is due in a few days. You can do this. You will get the gold star of approval from the editor, even if it kills you.
4. Stage Four: Self-doubt.
However, once you begin writing you start to overthink your ideas. You start to even question your own life choices. Is mayonnaise an instrument? Is an instrument mayonnaise? What is life? Who am I? Who wrote this article? A caveman? This is just awful, an atrocious article.
5. Stage Five: Even more procrastination
An even more few days later...
6. Stage Six: Completion
It is done. Your article is finished. You can finally turn in the article that has your sweat, tears, and possibly blood from all the typing. You have never seen something more beautiful. Time to share it with the world.
7. Stage Seven: Share, share, share!
You submit your article. You receive the e-mail to share your article. You share it on Facebook, Twitter, you even show it to your animals. Time for the article shares to roll in and maybe that first place cash prize. (Special shout out to your mom and grandma for always being the first ones to share your article).
8. Stage Eight: Sleep
Now that your article is published and off, it is time for you to put your pencil down and catch some Z's. You have certainly earned it after the fire article you shared...
Until next week. And this vicious but beautiful cycle starts all over again.
