The midterm week can be really stressful. It always feels as though it came out of nowhere. You feel like you have just moved back in from winter break two weeks ago. You didn’t even realize how far along you were into the semester until your professor mentioned that dreaded word, “midterms” last week. You are even baffled by the fact that you are already halfway through the semester. You know you can’t procrastinate any longer and you have to get your crap together. Stress starts to kick in and you know it is time for you to hit the books.
1. You start off being really organized and confident.
You make a list of all the things you have to do and when they are due by. You especially made the effort to write everything down in your planner. You are certain that you are going to do really well.
2. A few hours into studying, you start to procrastinate.
You tell yourself that you already know all the material, and the test is going to be a breeze. You even binge watch a couple of episodes of your favorite Netflix series because you think you have all the time in the world.
3. Then you finally realize how much you work you have actually been putting off.
You start to panic and think to yourself “oh crap." You call your mom and tell her how much work you have to do, but have yet to do it. You struggle to fight the tears back,
4. You pull the all-nighter to get all your studying and papers crammed in.
You wake up feeling exhausted from barely getting any sleep because you stayed up with your roommate in the library all night. The first thing you can possibly think of is getting an iced coffee. You know that, if you don’t have caffeine in your system within ten minutes, you will fall asleep.
5. You begin to get really cranky.
All you want is for your midterms to be over so that you can finally leave for spring break. Your bed and your mom’s homemade cooking are so close but yet so far away. You even count down how many classes you have left before you can leave.
6. You finally start to see yourself making progress.
You handed in that totally boring history paper and revised all of your essays for your English portfolios. You cross those things off the list, and start to feel really good about yourself. You realize you only have a few more days left until you get to go home.
7. You realize you only have a few more tests left.
You search for all the strength and energy you have left to study for your last exams. You made tons of flash cards, studied your notes, and made study guides. You know you got this.
8. It is finally over!
Now you are free to relax. You got all of your grades back and you did even better than you thought. Now you can go home, relax and give yourself a break. Only half a semester left to go!
