5 Things Every Girl Should Always Be Reminding Herself

Many of us constantly find ourselves struggling to make it through the day on a positive note. With all of this emphasis on social media, the ideal body, and keeping up with latest trends, it's easy to let the negative messages from social media impact our daily lives. Especially for girls who are constantly being told that they need to look a certain way, or behave a certain way, or wear the right clothing. Sometimes we just need to unplug ourselves from social media and remind ourselves of a few things...

1. The pain you feel today is the strength you will have tomorrow.

For some of us, we forget that everything that is thrown our way will eventually just make us stronger. Those indirect tweets are only going to give you thicker skin. The more we are encountered with negativity from social media, the more we realize how little of importance it ends up having on our daily lives. Just because someone made a negative indirect tweet about you does not mean they were right in what they said, or that what they said should even be considered relevant to your life. People behind a computer do not know you, you know yourself and who you are. Do not let indirect comments, or direct comments, on social media determine how you see yourself.

2. You are beautiful.

Too often is beauty reflected upon one's waist size, skin color, amount of makeup they wear, or fancy clothes they have. Beauty is defined differently by everyone. But within each and everyone of us there is beauty in the things that make us unique, in the things that make us who we are. You do not have to be a size 0 to be beautiful, you do not have to be curvy to be beautiful, you do not have to wear makeup to be beautiful. Beauty comes from being yourself, and being confident in the person you are not by what the media tells you.

3. Don't be afraid to eat that entire pizza.

The media likes to portray this idea of women saying that you are supposed to eat salad, exercise, drinking wine not beer. If you want to eat a pizza, you should eat a pizza without hesitation. If you want to chug back a few beers with your friends, do it. You should never feel like you are going to be judged for the food you eat. At the end of the day, you will be happier you choose pizza over a salad. Trust me.

4. "Likes" don't determine your self-worth.

We all know those girls that can get 500+ "likes" on a picture, while we hesitate to put up a selfie knowing it won't nearly get as many "likes" are there's. Whether you're getting 10 or 100 "likes" on social media doesn't make you better or worse than someone else. "Likes" do not determine your self-worth, they are not a representation of your character, they do not reflect back on your level of importance.

5. Being in a relationship is not the most important thing.

Nowadays if you aren't in a relationship then you start to feel like there might be something wrong with you, or that you will never find someone who will want to be with you. Just because you are in a relationship does not mean you are happy, and just because you are not in one doesn't mean you shouldn't be happy. The only relationship that you should focus on is the one with yourself. Learn to make yourself happy, learn to love yourself, learn who you are as a person, and work towards your goals. If you find a relationship along the way, awesome. If you don't, that's still pretty awesome too.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
