Finals week is well known as the most stressful week of college. Hands down. It consists of midnight coffee runs, over-nighters in the library, crying -- lots of crying -- only a few mental breakdowns and, finally, extreme happiness when the week comes to a close.
These five stages of finals week apply to over-achievers and under-achievers alike.
1. Denial.
This is for all the final papers and projects that your professors told the class about during syllabus week -- when you had the whole semester to do them. Instead, you started them the day before they were due because, let's face it, there was way better things to do.
2. Anger.
This stage reaches an all-time high when you find out that your professor is administering a cumulative exam. Whose idea was this, anyway? Are you trying to ruin my life?
3. Bargaining.
I'm pretty sure throughout their experiences all poor college students become professional bargainers. This really is helpful when you have to e-mail your professor last minute practically begging to give you that extra point.
4. Depression.
When you've reached this stage, almost everything is upsetting. Pretty much everything that can go wrong, will go wrong. You've reached an all-time low, and not even midnight coffee or pizza runs can cheer you up.
5. Acceptance.
At the fifth and final stage it will all hit you. No matter how much begging or crying you do, and no matter how many temper tantrums you throw finals week is not going away. Yes, you do have to study for all of your tests. And yes, some teachers will give cumulative exams. However, there's always a light at the end of tunnel. Only a few more days until Christmas break!
Happy finals week, y'all! Wishing everyone a stress-free and easy finals week (even though I know that's not possible).
