The 2016 American presidential election this November is one of the hotest topics of the year. To some, it's hilarious and to others, it's a nightmare. Those who aren't in America are making jokes and rejoicing to the fact that they don't live in a country with two absolutely horrific presidential candidates. It kind of reminds me of the South Park episode when they have to choose a mascot for the elementary school and their only options are a "Douche" and a "Turd Sandwich".
But in all seriousness, I'm afraid for every single American's future in this country for the next four (or at the worst - eight) years because of who everyone has to choose between in a few months.
First off, we have Hillary Clinton - the "Douche" in this electoral situation - who is a worldwide known liar and a traitor to the country. I don't trust this woman one bit, she just seems sneaky and like she lies for a living, which she basically does. I'm so afraid that if she becomes the president then everything will collapse. I believe that Hillary Clinton should not be the first female president that America elects because she has horrible moral standards and horrible past incidents that make her an irresponsible president. If she becomes the first female president
We know she's hated by most people because she's a terrible person and we know she's basically a hidden republican candidate running as a democrat. We know this. Everyone knows, and yet she's the best of a bad situation between who to vote for. I mean, I won't vote for any of the candidates this year, but I know a lot of people who are voting for Hillary Clinton just because she's the second worst option and not the first.
Then there's the second horrifying presidential candidate - Donald Trump. This racist ear of corn is very likely to become America's next leader within the next few months which is probably the most frightening thing I could imagine. The most popular idea that comes to mind when everyone began to realize that Trump may become the President is that America will have the first ever real-life hunger games. This, although funny and a popular "meme", is probably true. I cannot believe that America has become this broken that there are enough unintelligent individuals with the right to vote who find this sexist, racist, angry idiot as a decent option for President.
I really hope people are joking when they say they are voting for him because I just cannot take those who say this seriously. Maybe it's just me, though. Perhaps I just don't see what "amazing" things Trump has in store for us like dividing America and Mexico with the use of a wall. No, wait, that's the stupidest idea I've had to hear in a long long while. I refuse to let this man, a person who admitted to having raped one of his first wives, to become the leader of a country I unwillingly was born into. I don't want to see him on my television anymore, I don't want to hear his name on the news with the label as President in front of it. I don't want America to become a real-life hell on Earth.
Now I've spoken to people on campus about if they're voting or not and if so, then who are they voting for and so many people say they aren't voting at all. My best advice to give to these types of people is to vote for someone - ANYONE. If you choose not to vote then you're allowing whatever happens to happen without your help in stopping something bad from happening or helping something good to happen. It's better to vote for whatever candidate is less destructive (and no, I'm not saying your only choices are Clinton and Trump this election), than not vote at all and let the less intelligent citizens vote for the crappiest President ever.
Do your research, make your own opinions and choices during the voting season and don't let anyone shift your views onto what they're voting for or what they're doing. Be your own person and vote through your own will. Hopefully, enough people with the intelligence to know who would treat America better will vote and we won't have to embrace the end of the world.
