The 12 Thank Yous I Should Have Said More
Crystal Quirino

I am, without a doubt, 100 percent, no question about it a daddy's girl at heart. There's just something about the guy that I could never get enough of growing up, and I am thankful to have such a wonderful man in my life. Though I don't say it enough, I love you with all my heart, and I am very thankful for all of the life lessons you were able to teach me in 20 short years.

Here are some things I never really got around to verbally thanking you for and some that I should have said thank you for at the top of my lungs.

1. Thank you for teaching me the power of a hug.

Whether it was after a long day at school and work, or a boy had been mean to me, or I hadn't seen you in a long time, your hugs were always the cure to any gray sky.

2. Thank you for teaching me that WD40 makes you go and duct tape makes you stop.

I learned that just because something appears broken at the surface, doesn't mean you have to throw it away and forget it ever existed. Sometimes things, and people, just need a little more love and attention to make them work properly again.

3. Thank you for setting my standards high.

You showed me that I am worth more than the low-life who always called me out on my looks. You showed me that I deserve to be nothing less than a first priority in anyone's life. You showed me all the potential I had, and never let me slow down when the going got tough.

4. Thank you for being my favorite coach.

Between life and my sports, you were the best coach I have ever had. You never stopped pushing me and always expected me to be better than I had been the day before—which is one of the first things I think about every morning.

5. Thank you for teaching me how to do a proper cannon ball.

If mom had taught me, I probably never would have gone back to the pool out of sheer embarrassment.

6. Thank you for the dad jokes.

They weren't always funny, but they somehow always made me laugh.

7. Thank you for teaching me to find my limits on my own.

And for teaching me how to break through those limits like they were a sheet of paper.

8. Thank you for forcing me to spend quality family time.

I never wanted to do it but I am so happy that we had mandatory family time growing up. Being in college makes me miss it, and you, even more.

9. Thank you for teaching me to rub some dirt on and stop crying.

Nobody likes a cry-baby, and unless your leg is falling off, you'll be alright.

10. Thank you for calling me out on my B.S.

There aren't many other people brave enough in this world to do that when I need it the most.

11. Thank you for teaching me to never throw the first punch.

Sometimes biting your tongue is the best option you have. But you taught me that if all else fails, call it self-defense.

12. Thank you for teaching me to never give anything less than my all.

You taught me, and showed me, time and time again, that if the activity or person I was pursuing was worth my time, then they should be prioritized accordingly, and they deserve my all.

I know I was a real pain in the butt growing up. Neither time nor distance has slowed that down, but thank you anyway. Thank you for being my biggest fan. Thank you for being my first role model. Thank you for being my best friend.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
