12 Stages Of Coming Back From Break

Painful, but universal.

Winter break is over, and, while it was fun while it lasted, you now have to face reality; it's time to go back to school. Depending on where your best friend is located and how much you love your family and school, you can either be ecstatic to return or already counting down to spring break. Either way, these are the stages that everyone goes through when returning to college.

1. Waking up one morning and realizing you have to go back in one week.

Where did the time go? Oh, right; Netflix.

2. Horror when you realize you won't have as much time to sleep and watch Netflix.

You start calculating how many episodes a day you have to watch to finish the last three seasons of your favorite show.

3. Finally facing the music and looking at your schedule for next semester.

And immediately hating yourself. Why did you ever think it was a good idea to sign up for that 8 a.m.?

4. Spending Christmas money on overpriced textbooks.

And still not having enough to pay for them all.

5. Suddenly remembering all the people you hate and will have to see.

You pray for a miracle; maybe they transferred or got academic dismissal? One can only hope...

6. When you think of the cafeteria food...

You beg your parents to give you all the leftovers. All of them.

7. Panic when you need to leave in one hour, but you haven't started packing yet.

You can't believe the day to go back has come already. Seems like just yesterday when you refused to believe it was only tomorrow.

8. That moment when you have absolutely no idea where you left your dorm key.

Only to remember you stuffed it into the bottom of your luggage. Why? Because you're an idiot, of course.

9. Trying to bring all of your luggage up to your dorm in one trip.

Ha ha ha; why do you even try?

10. Finally getting to see your best friend/roommate/significant other (or all three at once if you're lucky).

You're really excited to see each other. They're the one person you actually kept in touch with over break and the best part about coming back. You guys fall back into sync like you never left each other.

11. Seeing everyone else.

You love all your friends, dorm mates, and sorority sisters, but you're still too excited about being back with your bestie to really talk and hang out with all of them.

12. Staying up all night to catch up with everyone, but then realizing it's 2 a.m. and that you have class in six hours.

Hey, at least you got that first all-nighter of the semester out of the way.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
