Face it, you know you love being at school and love being with your friends, but a week or two into the spring semester, you're already for spring break. With all of your friends going on spring break, starting as early as the beginning of March, it's a struggle to make it to your very last Friday class the day before break. Going on a tropical vacay with your girls might be on your college bucket list, but there's something about sitting on home and doing nothing. So while you're posting on Instagram selfies with booze on the beach, I'll be sending all my friends on Snapchat ugly selfies of me in bed sans make up, and most likely with my dogs. And if you're reading this, I'm sure you're at home too.
1. Home is where the heart, I mean, bed is.
I love my bed, you love your bed, everyone loves their bed. You can try your best to make your bed in your dorm or apartment as comfortable as your one at home, but no Tempurpedic mattress topper is going to make the crappy mattress provided feel as heavenly as your non-twin-size bed is at home.
2. No need to set alarms.
Weekends at school are devoted to dages and going out with friends. You may want to sleep in, but let's be honest, you know you want to make it to Bagels and Andre, so sleeping in is not an option. Spring break is the time to catch up on some much needed Z's.
3. Homemade meals that you wouldn't have the time to make at school.
If you don't live in a dorm and aren't going to dining halls, there are only so many types of food you can cook in your kitchen. After a while, you're going to turn into pasta if you have it one more time. Even if your mom or dad aren't good at cooking, their attempts at making dinner will be much nicer than your rushed attempted at cooking chicken in your tiny kitchen while cramming for an exam.
4. Not having classes for more than a week is a blessing.
While your Facebook album is full of cute pictures of you and your besties, in reality, you're a lot more stressed out and consumed with work than you would like to admit. So when your grandma comments on your album that it looks like you're having so much fun, you are, but you also need a break, especially for your mental health right after midterms.
5. You finally can clean your room.
Yes, even I rolled my eyes when I wrote this because I hate cleaning my room. Then again, I also know it's not necessary for me to have clothes in my closet that I have not worn in years. The only good part about cleaning your room is the next number on this list.
6. The only thing better than shopping is shopping and knowing you don't have to pay for your new goodies.
Like most girls I love shopping, but I also love seeing that I have a nice amount of money on my debit card. Spring break is a time to go shopping with your mom. Sure, you may not need anything, but it's always fun to revamp your wardrobe and come back to school with some new gear.
7. Visiting your favorite restaurants that you've missed when you were at school.
If your not having meals cooked for you every night, there's time to go to your favorite restaurants when your home. Breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner -- it doesn't matter. You know you made a list (even if it was just in your head) of all of the places you wanted to go to when you got home. Besides, nothing is better than some really good Chinese food.
8. Seeing your friends that you haven't seen in months.
If you're like me, unfortunately most of your friends are already back at school because good old UD's spring break is probably the latest one out of your group of friends, but if your friends are home, lucky you. Yes, you can text and FaceTime all you want when you're at school, but there's something nice and old school about meeting up in person.
9. Picking up a book and getting to start and actually finish it.
I love reading, but I never have time to read during school. While my go-to books are celebrity memoirs, I like taking the time to escape form the real world and just sit and read. If I can finish one book during this break, I'll consider it to be successful.
10. Hanging out with family.
You might have been so excited to go back to school and get away from your family at the beginning of the semester, but now you're actually excited to see them. The real question is how long until you want to kill them and go back to school?
