Growing up in the 2000s, one of my favorite things to do at night was watch television. One of the best types of television is reality, and the 2000s had some of the most iconic reality shows. Unfortunately, many of these shows got canceled. These are the 11 best reality shows from the 2000s that got canceled:
"Boiling Points"
"Boiling Points" is an MTV hidden-camera television show. The point of this show was for the people being pranked to be patient, without knowing they were on a television show and that they needed to be patient to win. Each segment has a different set time period and if the people being pranked keep their calm the entire time, they win money! But if their tempers boil over, they lose and they get nothing.
"Queen Bees"
"Queen Bees" was one of my favorite television shows during its time. In "Queen Bees," mean girls who think they're the "queen bee" (think: Regina George) move into a house together and are told they're there for a "personality makeover." Each girl earns stars for acting certain ways, and they also lose stars if they do certain things. If a girl does not progress two weeks in a row, she is eliminated and sent home. The girl with the most stars at the end of the show is the one who wins, because she has shown the most improvement.
"Date My Mom"
OK, so watching a preview of this show, "Date My Mom" is a lot cheesier than I remember it being. Anyways, this show is a show made for people looking for love. One person goes on a date with three moms without meeting the mother's child. The mother tries to talk their child up and get the person going on the dates with the moms to choose their child as the person they want to date!
"Next"
This is another show for people looking for love, but, unlike "Date My Mom," "Next" isn't as cheesy. In "Next,'' five people gather into a bus and go on a blind date with somebody else. If the person looking for their love doesn't like something about their current date, they can say "Next," and it's onto the next person. The five people in the bus earn money depending on how long their date lasts. When the person looking for love chooses one of the dates, the date can either go on another date, or take the money and run!
"MTV Cribs"
"MTV Cribs" was a fun show to watch and it centered around our favorite people: celebrities! While watching "MTV Cribs," we got an inside look into celebrities lives through a tour of their house, or, as MTV calls it, "crib."
"Punk'd"
"Punk'd" was one of the 2000s funniest reality shows. In "Punk'd," Ashton Kutcher pranks celebrities while on a hidden-camera. This show was one of the best ones to watch when you were looking for a laugh!
"The Simple Life"
"The Simple Life" was a reality television show that followed the lives of starlets Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie as they move in with a farming family and live lackluster lives. Watching two women who grew up in the spotlight trying to live different lives was more than entertaining. This show unfortunately got canceled when these best friends had a falling out.
"Laguna Beach"
"Laguna Beach" followed the lives of a group of high school best friends. This show had just as much drama as 90210, but the drama wasn't a scripted show with hired actors; this was their real life. This is where we first met the beloved Lauren Conrad.
"Silent Library"
"Silent Library" was another show on MTV, but this one was a game show. In "Silent Library," contestants are given challenges and they try to stay as silent as they can while they complete each challenge. If they are successful at completing a challenge, they win money. If they fail the challenge or are too loud during the challenge, they don't win it. Each round, the challenges get tougher and the prize per challenge gets larger.
"Room Raiders"
"Room Raiders" is another hilarious MTV show. Three people are unsuspectingly pulled from their rooms while somebody else raids through their rooms. The person who raids through the other three people's rooms are allowed to go through everything using a "spy kit," which includes a black light. The raider chooses one of the three to date, based only off of what is in their room. The other three watch as the raider goes through each room.
"Parental Control"
Now, this show was by far one of my favorite MTV shows. "Parental Control" was a show where parents who hated their son or daughter's significant other would set their child up on blind dates to try to convince their child to leave their current significant other. The parents go through a series of interviews with potential candidates. Each parent gets to choose one person for their child to go on a blind date with. The parent and the current significant other watch each blind date live, together, which makes for some hilarious back-and-forth commentary between the parents and the significant other. After the blind dates are over, the son or daughter gets to choose between the blind dates and their current significant other.
